Hi, my name is Barbie and i am 51 years old. Had nerve damaged from the age of 44 starting out with pluerisy. I am in constant pain when i breath in. I have also spinal damage and suffer fits due to the pain. I am very depressed and find it very difficult to carry on this way. I have come off a lot of my medication to try and stop the fits etc. At the moment i am on > Oxycontin, Oxynorm, Fluxetine

Does anyone have any suggestions ? anything would help me please as i am most desperate.
Thanks from Barbie

Hi Barbie and welcome to the chronic pain forum. I know a little about pluerisy as my sister gets this from time to time and is quite miserable when it strikes. Is pluerisy what caused the nerve damage and where is your nerve damage at? Have your ever been tried on any of the medications that work specifically on nerve damage like, Lyrica, Cymbalta or Neurotin or Amitriptiline? I know you said you went off medications and I don't know if any of these were one of those you stopped.

Pretty much anyone with chronic pain suffers with depression and many of us need medication to help keep it under control. I am a much more pleasant person on an antidepressant than when I am not, my family will tell anyone that. You really should consider getting some help with the depression, its hard enough living with chronic pain and surviving the days.

What kind of a dr are you seeing? Many of us here at the forum are under the care of pain mgt drs. They are use to dealing with people that suffer with pain and tend to know better how to care for us than any other type of dr. With the new rules and guidelines in place by the DEA concerning drs that rx narcotics, pretty much pain mgt drs are the only ones willing to to write a script for pain medication. Our PCP's do not want to run the risk of the DEA showing up and doing an audit in their office, they are scared to death of the DEA. Due to all the hype on drugs. chronic pain patients are paying every bit of a high price for care and treatment because of this mess created by the druggies.

Anyway, I wanted to pop on and tell you hello and welcome aboard. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Take care.....Susie

I have heard gabapentin works well for nerve pain. Hope you feel better! Also I used to take cymbalta and it did help, although it made me a little sick to my stomach.
