Hi all

I have just found out that I am having my next sacriliac fusion op on 27th of this month. This will be my third back op in less than two years and my second this year. I know my options are limited as I am in so much pain, in fact I am flat on my back today dosed up on baclofen to try to deal with the spasms. My darling husband has just come home from work to help me to the loo. I can't go on like this, I can't live like this. Something must change.
Luckily I have the most amazing surgeon who I have complete faith in, he has been through all this with me and has been so understanding. I am in the UK and am lucky enough to have private medical insurance otherwise I would be waiting around six months and six months in this state would be more than I could cope with.
I still have to schedule removal of the plate from my leg so that my knee replacement op can go ahead. I am hoping that can wait until next year, I don't think I can cope with much more this year. I will be non weigh bearing for six weeks followed by six weeks of partial weight bearing so I am hoping that by giving my bad leg a good rest, I may get away with holding off with the knee op.
I am trying to be strong but I am weepy and barking at my husband who has been nothing but good to me and looked after me through all this. Sometimes I think I am too proud, at least I think that's the right word. I know I should use the wheelchair that has been issued to me, but I hate it. Why do I feel like this when I know it is the right thing at the moment. Sorry this is so disjointed, today is a bit of a struggle, but thank you for allowing me to vent.
Thinking of all my fellow chronic pain sufferers

Hi Jane
Sorry that your having such a rough time of it right now! Hopefully your up coming surgery will really be of help to you. But the waiting is alway the hard part, I am sure that once you have the surgery then every thing will start looking better! Oh sure it might be difficult at first, it often is, especially if you over due it to soon! So be careful and do exactly what your doctor says and do not be in to much of a hurry, Give your body and your surgery plenty of time to heal!
Jane I know it might be really difficult right now, but try and do your best to get up and around as much as you can. Even if you have to use the dreaded wheel chair that you don't want to use. The more active you do now,  the easier it will be on you, when you have the surgery and  right afterwards. Your muscles and all your organs and  just every thing in your body  needs the activity.  It is great that you have such and understanding and devoted husband to help you. But try your best to do as much as you can, to keep active.
I do wish you well and hope you get to feeling better soon.  Remember all your friends here at Healing Well are here to listen to and support you!

Jane I hope the surgery helps you. I have an idea how you feel about the wheelchair. I use my walker when I go shopping because my back goes into spasms. I also use it when I go see my surgeon, because his office is at the back of the hospital.
Take care
