Of course everyone is different, but I would say a normal stay is about 4 to 5 days in the hospital after a fusion. It will really depend on how well you do, and getting your pain down to an acceptable level.
As far as the bone stimulator,...some surgeons will use this especially if you are a smoker. It wouldn't hurt to have this, but its best to ask your surgeon about it.
I had a double lumbar fusion surgery back in 2010. The fusion was a success, but sadly I still suffer pain today. It's hoped that one would be out of pain after such a surgery, but it is just not the case for many. The good thing is,... that the surgery will correct a problem that could become much worse later on in life, and cause even more problems that you already have.
I wish you the best!...and please do not overdo yourself afterwards. It takes several months to heal from a fusion. Don't get down if you have a few setbacks,.... with the post opp pain....it takes time.
Please do report back, and we would love to support you during your recovery process. We will be cheering you on!
