I tried Butrans for a few months. I was on Oxycontin 10mg x2 and didn't like the withdrawal feeling before my morning pill.
My doctor put me on 10mcg of Butrans. I found that its release was not at all smooth: too strong at first, then would be too weak by day 4. I didn't want to move up to 20mcg because of how strong the 10mcg was during the first day.
With regards to the euphoria of opioids, you'll probably lose that eventually. By 2010, that was basically over for me -- it was a good benefit while it lasted since it helped with depression and also helped balance off the suffering tied to chronic pain. Please don't try to chase the "euphoria"... once it is gone, you'll never really get it back. Higher doses may give you a bit, but it will be very short lived and will get even shorter if you continue to chase it.
I know that it is sappy, but at this point, I get far more euphoria & energy from exercise than opioids. If you're looking for something to help with mood, let me suggest instead something to increase serotonin (a supplement such as 5-HTP, a SSRI or a SRA -- serotonin releasing agent).
