I had a problem last week when my doctor forgot to write the amount of medication on the script, so my pharmacist at CVS told me there was a new program that allows pain doctors to email the script to the pharmacy but the doctors office must have the special computer program to do this. She also told me that they can also order an emergency 3 day supply until you see the doctor. I think this is great. I just don't know if my CP Doc has this in his office. This would make mistakes a thing of the past because everything would be on a program and they couldn't send it if the script didn't have all of the  information needed. North Carolina is the only state that I know of that's able to do this.

P.S. Yes this is for Methadone, Dilaudid, Oxycodone, Morphine, Fentanyl and any other Schedule 2 drug.

Wouldn't that be classified as Electronic Prescriptions ?

Randy,

I'm not doubting that you were told this.... but I'm not finding anything on the web about this??

North Carolina does have the Prescription Monitoring Program Database.... but other than that, I see nothing about being able to electronically send Class 2 meds....

If you find anything, please post a link..... thank you!

Hi Tina,

When I had the problem with my script for methadone on Sat Oct 5. My pharmacist told me I had 3 choices #1-go back to the office and get the amount filled in. #2 was to have them email a new script if they were set up for the email or electronic script. #3 was to get the 3 day temp script (I forgot what she said) But I've been going to this CVS for 5+yr's and I even asked her if she was sure about this and she told me that it just went on line recently and the doctors office needs to have special software to be able to participate in the program for CII scripts.

I also went online and could not find anything. But there was something on

North Carolina's Pharmacies site that talks about electronic scripts and the software but it is very vague about it's use.

I am seeing my doctor next week and I am going to ask him if they are in the program and anything else about it..

I am in Ohio - so not the same state. But, during one of my recent conversations with my pain doctor, she said that they are trying to get the approval in Ohio to be able to do this also. It has not gone through as of when I talked to her, but it was definitely being debated.

I am sure that Ohio would not be a front runner in a system such as this, so I believe that there are probably other states that are attempting to do the same thing. I know that my pain doc already sends my other scripts via electronic mail, so this must be something special regarding the class II RX's and a new program.

I don't see her again until November, but I will try to remember to ask if there has been any headway made.

I found it! Under DEAdiversion at the DEA official website and its under EPCS. Electronic prescription of controlled substance and evidently they've been allowed to do this since 2010?

M&G or someone maybe can get the link here I'm working from my phone due to crappy internet I refuse to pay $97 a month for!

Remember if you have questions about your controlled meds go to the DEA site.

I want a written prescription in my hand.I have to check to see if they've screwed it up.

I can't imagine how bad they'd screw up an e-mail.

I carried a post-dated Prescription around for 2 weeks a few months back.I tried to give it to my Pharmacist to put on my file but she said she couldn't because it was a Schedule 2.

It was comforting knowing that I had a prescription in my hand though when my re-fill date arrived.

Y'all have a great day,
Rick

I live in NC & my PM dr has been able to do these for at least a year. The pharmacy has to be set up w/this program as well!!! I've only used this a few times recently but so far it works out well. My meds have been ready or being checked off on by the time I get there.

In the DEA rules its dated 2010. Odd that we've not seen it here before?

Oh I always have the next months script and also tried to get pharmacy to keep it,no deal! They said I cant leave it more than 24 hrs before fill date.

I believe I use to leave them years ago but that may have been when I took hydro for b/t and before it was a higher class.
