He is seeking a drug high - Period.. using relief from pain as an excuse - I would love to not hurt but am not willing to pay that price. He is.

It is unacceptable behaviour
- Period. Would you tolerate this if his drug of choice was cocaine or heroin?

I have friend who had friend who chewed his patches.. he OD & died.
Who is gonna take charge of your uncle & save him from himself / his self-destructive behaviour

Trying to help is wonderful but he is too heavy for YOU to pull outta the hole he dug without his help.
Nvrthesame98 - my heart goes out to you too.
