Help

I was hospitalized in the beginning of the year for a severe flare of UC. The flare was so bad they had to remove my colon. I was given Diluadid IV. I have been taking Diluadid IV for 4 months now, about 50mg a day. I decided it was time to stop so this week I started to ween myself off.
I am on Day 2 of no Diluadid and feel terrible. What can I do to help with the withdrawals? How long till I feel normal again. I have never experienced anything like this. I am so scared.

Hello izzie!…and welcome!

I noticed seeing a couple OTC meds at both Walgreens and Walmart that are specifically meant just for withdrawals symptoms. You might want to check those out, and also please feel free to use the search button here on this page. This question has been asked many times over the years, and I know for a fact that there are several post on this.

Good luck to you, and I hope you get to feeling better soon. Many of us know exactly what your going through in trying to reduce those narcotics.

….I'm so sorry, but do not recall the names of them. However you can usually find them next to the drug testing kits on the shelves.

Either speak to your doctor or go to the ER and explain to them what you are trying to do and ask for a Clonidine patch. It will take about 12 hours before it really kicks in but it does work pretty well at helping with withdrawal symptoms.

AS far as OTC medications go the only thing that I know of that might help is liquid Nyquil cold medicine.

And Immodium but Google search dosing it for withdrawal symptoms because it's much different then packaging instructions. I cannot unfortunately give you those instructions, sorry.

Its always better when you decide to do this to seek help from a Dr since withdrawal can lead to other medical complications such as seizures, high blood pressure, extreme insomnia, dehydration, to mention a few.

Clonidine and other meds such as butrans, Subutex, suboxone, can be used to make sure your safely cleared and comfortable as possible. It's statistically proven that more people succeed getting off if they're assisted by medical help otherwise w/ds usually get to the point of discomfort that people return to using.

Hi, izzie. Sorry you're dealing with this. I went through opiate withdrawal after surgery for Crohn's...not fun! I bought a product called withdrawal-ease, which I found online, but can't tell you how it works because I was too hesitant to take it, haha. (I'm sure you know how that is...never knowing how things will affect that cranky GI system!).

It's an herbal combination that's supposed to help you chill as you withdraw; there's a daytime formula and a nighttime formula. It did get good reviews online.

I ended up just toughing it out, but it might have been wiser to give the supplement a try and see how it affected me.

Sorry I'm not a lot of help, but I figured I'd give you the product name so you could research it for yourself. Best wishes!

Edit: I agree that seeking a doctor's help/guidance might be useful.

Diluadid is probably the quickest thing to get addicted to and the worst one to ween off.

Back in the day I did only 2 months of 8Mg Exalgo (least one) daily diluadid. After 2 months I stopped when I got my dream job, OMG I couldn't believe the hell I went through. Never again after this.

I went through packs of immodium.
