I'm new to AARP and just got an offer to participate in this. It's a discount card to use for drugs that are not covered by my insurance. It says it can be used by anyone in my family also, including grandchildren up to age 27. I just did a Google search and see there are many other discount cards also available for prescriptions, some free and some for a fee, but still not insurance.

Has anyone participated in something like this? Is it true or too good to be true?

Posterior C3 - C7 laminectomy and fusion 2 rods and 10 screws, local bone graft from surgery site-lamina and other bony tissue.
Knee and foot surgery
Cataract surgery x2. Felt that I was looking through water post-op. Told it is floaters that I probably had before surgery. I disagree. Very irritating, worse in bright light.
Thankful for my husband of over 40 years

My doctor gave me one that could be used on one of my medications in particular, and more recently, there was a stack of them available for the taking at one of my other surgeon's office,....

But, I always seem to forget about them, so I don't know.

Oh wait, once I tried to use it, but found it had to be "activated" before being used, and I think that may have wigged me out a little bit, that someone other than my insurance would be tracking my meds??

Not sure now....and not sure how (intentional or not) forthright the info we're being told about how they work is. But hey, I suppose it's worth a shot, eh?

I have a discount card that I use for one of BP medications, I pay $4 for a 30 day supply. You can take it to your pharmacy & they can tell you how much your meds would be using the card. I found one last year for my DIL because she was not insured & it has worked great for her.

I have a discount card for a med that my insurance won't cover. Without it I couldn't afford the med.

I have come across many discount prescription cards for free and tried a few, but never had much savings until I subscribed to a group prescription card for $7.95 per month. Anyone can get this group card. It saved my friend over $127 per month on two prescriptions and has saved me around $114 over the last two months. You can get info like I did at http://www.grouprxprices.com

My gynecologist gave me this advice about 10 years ago: "There is nearly ALWAYS a discount on medicines that are NOT generics, if you take the time to visit their website" I have saved tons over the years on migraine meds, pain medicine and hormonal meds. My hubby has diabetes, and I found a discount card for his type of insulin injections. Pays to check! :)

I keep repeating the same information when I see folks spending hundreds on some of the newer meds. Almost every drug manufacturer has a patient assist program and even if you can't qualify for that you will find coupons with a amount or percentage off. If you don't see one contact them and they usually have some they will send you. Pharmacys will let you use these coupons and discounts in conjunction with a prescription discount card as well. I use to take a Hrt med that was $65 after my insurance paid but with the drug company's coupon and my cell phone carriers discount card I paid$6.50 for it. So definitely worth looking into.

One of my daughters has ADD and the discount card she uses means the difference in her having her meds and not having them. Many of the discount cards are free and they can save you a lot.

GoodRx is the best discount card out there, IMO. It's free, covers almost all drugs, requires nothing but a computer and printer and not even a printer as they will mail you a card. Just google the name and the easily navigable site will take it from there. My Mom and two Sisters use it over and over again and can't stop thanking me for the info . . . Q

The only think I've noticed is that they cannot be used if you have any type of existing insurance.

At least in my experience. Maybe it depends on the card. But those discount cards didn't help buffer copays or anything (no matter how high).

Merrida,
GoodRx accepts ins cards on certain meds, the high priced ones. It costs no money and it offers self print coupons. They even advertise on this site! . . . .Q
