Post op pain is inevitable, but the staff dropped the ball. They are supposed to stay ahead of her pain and keep her comfortable. She should not be suffering if properly medicated. Thank you for being her advocate. Patients ALWAYS need a loved one at their side, regardless. Most people assume their loved ones (or they) will be well taken care of in a hospital setting. Sadly, they are WRONG. I have often had to interrupt personal conversations and socialization (at the nurses' station) in order to get them to attend to my mom. IMO medical care has gone into a death spiral, with the added distractions of "technology".
Sending prayers for both you and your mom=)
