Three months after neck fusion my right shoulder was hurting when I took a shirt off over my head. I was being sent to PT then for my neck, so treatment for the shoulder was included. PT ended 3 or 4 months later. The shoulder pain started again and has gotten worse the past 2 weeks. I wake up with a very achy upper arm. I find there are more positions that hurt. If my elbow is above and/or behind my shoulder it hurts.
I called my neck surgeon to ask for more PT. He told me to start taking the Celebrex that I had and come in this week. He was certain it was my rotator cuff when I saw him. He offered a steriod injection followed by 4 weeks of PT. Honestly, I paused before accepting the shot, thinking I really needed to run that by my Healing Well friends. But I took the shot. Pain relief came in about 3 minutes. But a few hours later there was very little relief. I will start PT tomorrow.
The Rx for PT says I'm being treated for Shoulder Impingement Syndrome. I never heard of that, but googled it and recognize most of what is said about it. It can continue into a torn rotator cuff if not treated, I think. I have no idea how I did this to myself. I've certainly not been very active, but even just repetitive movements can lead to it. Or it could come from bone spurs. I'm certainly hoping the PT takes care of it. If not, my dr said an MRI would be next.
Comments, advice welcome.
