Hi everybody,

I am 52 years old.

I underwent sugery one week ago, every thing seem to be well, y'day I was seated for couple of hours to work on computer, then first time after surgery I had a warm shower, which made me very tired I was almost trembling.
I had a long leg masssage with camphor and linament oil, as my muscles felt sore.

at late night, I started a severe pain from buttock, behind knee, calf, on right leg. it was not exactly the pain I had for 40 days before surgery of sciatica nerve, but similer mainly muscle pain i think.

though i was stopping with corteson jabs due to my diabetes type 2, going high 350+, this morning i had to get half of it 2ml, and now the pain is almost gone.

HAS ANYONE undergone this after surgery? do you know the cause?

I wonder if the massage stimulating almost dead muscles ,regaining life made me have those spasms.

also , my son kept my right leg on his shoulder, he was seated on a chair, while I was lying on the bed, while he tried to bring my leg to his shoulder i felt a pain and immidietly that position was stopped. wonder if that caused some thing.

I need to travel by air for one hour and a couple of hrs by car on the 23rd feb, for an important medical visit with my daughter, please tell me your openion.
thank you.

Hey Hope.I really don't know the answer but I hate it for you.My former PMD stuck my Sciatic Nerve with an injection and it was the worst 49 days of pain ever for me.

Hopefully someone will have an answer for you.

Take care,

Rick

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry you are having so much pain. We can't diagnose because we're not doctors, but you have my sympathy.

Have you called your surgeon, and maybe your pain doctor if you have one?

The cortisone is for the swelling. Who gave it to you? If it was your doctor, that's the one to call. Maybe there's something else you could take.

Hi Hope,
Welcome to the forum! I am sorry to hear about your surgery and your pain.
I am no doctor, but I can say from surgery experience having a similar condition that it will take time to heal. One thing that I had with my L5 herniation, my nerve root was impinged and very very inflamed. The laminectomy they did was supposed to help the impingement but in my case it was too late because the nerve had been impinged for so long, it became a chronic condition even though the disc was taken care of.
I still think you have some recovering to do, that could be part of your problem. What did the surgeon say for your post op appointment?
It took a long time for the nerves and tissue to calm down after surgery.

I hope you start to feel better soon!

Pam

If you just had surgery a week ago the sitting at the computer for that long may also be the culprit. Sitting puts a lot of stress on the spine. You probably should call your dr & let him know what is going on.

Take care.

I had L5/S1 in 2008, and like Pam it was done too late so I still have pain and numbness but not as severe as before surgery. But you need to be very careful what you do for 6-8 weeks. Sitting for long periods is bad and I would not recommend massage since it could stimulate a blood clot. If you continue to have pain in your leg I would suggest calling your doctor right away. And also ask him what you should and should not do. You really need to take it easy and be either horizontal or walking frequently short distances. I hope you recover without complication.
C4-7 ACDF - 6 " vertical incision:plate, 8 screws: spurring all levels & both sides, loss of disks, & vertebrate pushing on spinal cord and out of alignment
Severe osteoporosis, DDD and osteoarthritis - all levels of spine
Failed L5/S1 LD surgery (re-ruptured) L2-4/5 discs bad

Hi Tidalmouse, Alcie, Sisterpam, Straydog ( love it), Taller now

Buongiorno to all of you,
It was so nice to wake up to find that someone had taken the trouble to care for you, appreciate your answers alot.

The whole of y'day I was mostly lying down on sides, very little walking.
my family doctor and surgeon prescribed before surgery and after only for 3 days cortesone. as they knew i have Diabetic type 2.

I had my blood sugar at 350almost the whole day, with sweat hot and cold effects.

Ispoke to my family doc and now Cortesone is prohibitted. I am to take for pain only palexia 100mg even twice aday, if necessary Toradol drops under the toungue which is suppose to be a very quick pain killer.

my glicemia will take another 2 days to clear off from 300s.

Stray dog and Taller now, Infact i understood that sitting down was bad, also the massages did not do any good.

now it is the 9th day, my family wont allow me to do the stairs, they are very worried if i get back the pain. which i think i should try.... :(

I feel sudden small aches on my back upper thigh if i try to lean to take some thing, so i am careful of everything.
oh boy i stayed 40 days in bed with pain but now this after surgery imprisonment drives me nuts....

I am so sorry after reading yours, I feel that most of you had gone through much worst than me, i beleive my impingemnt of the nerve has been for 2 months and dont think it is that long.. atleast compared to you all.

Taller now, thank you for the hint about blood clot forming after massaging, will be on alert !!
Tidal mouse, Alcie, Sister Pam, thank you for the support... today no pain anyway... hope all will be sorted out.. I have a trip to Rome to take my 22 yr old daughter for a specialist visit to talk about FMT , she has ulcerative pan colitis.

really hope our trip will be a sucscess, wish me luck !!
I hope and pray that all of you will head for a lovely weekend without any aches and pains.
