I don't know exactly what you got going on and I certainly am no doc. I can only share my experience. I went through a bout with some eye pain for a little over a year. It would come and go, always the same right eye. It felt like something was in there. I finally went to the ER with it, cause the warm wash cloth I had been using quit helping. They said an allergy, sent me home. Another six months go by and my husband says "you need to see an eye specialist" So I went and it turns out to to be dry eye, started using the drops she recommended and as long as I use them I don't have any problems. I was so glad that was that simple. Too bad this leg thing is not!!!!!!!!

Hi Char,

I feel for you. You know all about my own major eye problems, so I can totally sympathize with what you are going through! Hope the eye doc helps you out next week, and that you are able to find a way to get some relief in the mean time. Ice sometimes helps me to kinda numb my eyes and the surrounding tissue. Doesn't help with the tissue behind the eye, which is where most of my pain is. But it does help with the more superficial pain. And it should help with the inflammation, too. They also do make OTC eye drops for allergies/itching. So if you don't already have some, you might consider trying them. Fortunately, my allergies aren't too bad. But they do help when I have a flair up in the springtime and get itchy eyes.

Enjoy the time with your daughter! And congrats to her (and you) on her engagement/marriage. I remember when she was first applying to college!

Hang in there!

Hugs,
Skeye

PS - Hotpacking your eye with a tea bag -- ideally of eyebright tea, or if not, green tea -- can help with inflammation, too. Steep the tea bag in hot water for 5-10 min, as if you were making tea. Then apply the warm tea bag to your eye for 5-10 min several times a day. Just make sure that it is not too hot, first! You can reuse the same tea bag several times. Just store it in the liquid in the fridge, and then heat up the tea cup w/ tea bag before use. Or alternatively, you can soak a wash cloth in the warm tea, and apply that to your eye instead of the tea bag.

I have uveitis due to JRA.
First-don't mess around with eye pain. It doesn't take long for the situation to get serious. I've had times where I have to see my eye Dr every other day during treatment.

OTC stuff that might help. I am only to use preservative free eye drops. They are more expensive, but are apparently better for the eyes.

Also, instead of using drops at night, use the gel. You just place it along the inside of your lower lid. You are not going to be able to see clearly for a bit, but the goop will keep your eye hydrated which helps the eye heal.

Have you explained to the receptionist what is going on with your eyes? I'd hope your Dr would fit you in if he knew you were having severe pain. It really doesn't take much for irritated eyes to become infected or to have torn corneas(which is not fun at all).

I hope you are able to get in and get some help. I know how miserable the eyes can make you feel.

my eyes are also driving me nuts, burning, burning and more burning. I am using eye drops every day. I do not know why it is acting up, my vision is not that great either. Am tired of "not seeing straight" and people having two noses and not knowing the difference between a 25 year old and a 55. Well THEY ARE ALL THE SAME IN THE DARK (lol) but still!!!!

Thank you all so very much... I have Sjogrens dry eye, allergies and very early onset macular degeneration...if only it was as simple as just dry eyes..

Prescription drops do help the best but are over $100.00. I do use systane, blink and muro drops and gels...I'm in Ft. Worth right now for a quick overnight visit with our daughter, now we have pictures with her in the dress with everthing but shoes on....
Otherwise I would've boilled an egg and wrapped it in a towel and placed it on my eyes as the egg retains the heat loger than a wash cloth...

I really do appreciate the advise and help as I sometimes forget my home remedies and then you all help me remember. I'll keep my sunglassess on all day tomorrow as the glare from other cars hurt.. a good thing that husband is driving, I drove part way up and now back is messed up and woke me a few minutes ago...

One day they will find a cure and we'll all see an end to eye pain and dry eyes...

Thank you...

Hope things settle a bit soon Chart. With you having dry eye & allergies...does an eyelid wash help? I can't think of the name of it now - will check later what's in it - but when my eyes flare badly (have dry eye and get bad blepharitis...eyes puffed shut are such a good look!) I use a hot compress and special eyelid wash (OTC - but under instructions from my opthalmologist) before bed and then a thicker ointment (Lacrilube - or polyvisc I think is the other) - and then systane or something like that during the day.

Glad you got some nice pics too

The thick eye ointment/gel helps me out the most when I'm not taking prescription meds. It's a little more $$$, but I think it's totally worth it.

I am going to wait for a month or two and see the doc again for my eyes. It has been a slow degeneration but sometimes kind of scary. Definitively taking the blink stuff every day. I kept saying, o it's just more pain but you know, maybe I can relieve it a bit.

Glad you got some good pix and hope everybody does okay and my best wishes to all.

Eye doctor appointment went good, was missing 3 of the 4 eye lid plugs, so those got replaced, got a sample of the steroid drops which helps and I have to get pressure checks next week. (Steroid eye drops can effect eye pressure and if that happens then no more steroid eye drops)
I bought a specialized eye warmth eye pads and need specialized sunglasses.
Other than that my vision is the same as last year which is good...
Eyes are doing better already but hope that contines..now for time to heal the bruises around my eyes caused by all the crustiness..time to heal up...

Thank you...

I could never keep those plugs in-they drove me crazy.

I have an appointment tomorrow. I have both sjrogren's and uveitis. I had to leave the movie theater because the light was just so bright. Luckily one of my former students was behind the ticket counter and gave me a movie pass.

I'm glad you had a good appointment. I hope the meds kick in fast.

Thank you, everyone, advise is always welcomed.
Thank you Barbara, today with my husbands premission we ordered my special expensive sunglassess it was time and much needed and will go on the medical credit card as they are a medical necessity with my vision. They will have single vision lens prescription which is a huge added costs, more than the mirrored coating...going to do predforte twice a day with blink drops when needed.
We'll do the eye pictures for the macula degeneration when or if I get on a dmard...
Thank you everyone, eyes are better, still hurt but these drops do help.

I'm on predforte as well for the iritis-lucky us :)

I finally spent the money and got the Transition lenses for my regular glasses so I never have to worry about sunglasses.

Glad the eyes are starting to improve, it's awful when it hurts to see.

rocckyd, thank you and make sure your eye pressure gets checked while on predforte, if it starts to effect your eye pressure then you'll need to stop the predforte...for me its not effected my pressure yet...and predforte helps me the most of all those drops and gels...I have enough eye drops to fill a carry on bag at the airport...seems all mine started with an eye boil that caused a bad infection and 3 eye surgeries in 2006, since then my eyes just have not been the same..on that 3rd surgery the eye surgeon took out 10 stitches in office with me just on valium and the pain hit me really bad in the car on the way home that was the absolute worse pain and if I had to do again it would've been done in hospital...knocked out..took forever for that boil to go away...next year will be 10 yrs of eye pain, hate to say that...wow, that just koncked me for a loop...

Joan you need to go to the eye doctor, your taking a huge risk and that's not good...go get seen your eyes are worth the money...have you tried hot water compressess?
Worried about you Joan, please spend the money on the eye doctor, vision is so important, I never knew how important until I got the very early macular degeneration, to know your losing eye sight is scary...and not an easy dx, so go get seen...it changes your world...Genteal is a good eye drop as well...I've used muro, genteal, refresh, restasis, sustaine(sp?) , blink and others..plus antibotic eye gels and ointments...predforte is a last resort type drop as with it eye pressure checks need to be done...

Hi.

I'm at my wit's end about my eye pain. I had cataract surgery in October of 2014. Nothing but problems since. No one wants to admit that it all could have been triggered by the surgery. I have had severe dry eye and am now told that I still have dry eye and blepharitis, as well. Seems nothing can help. I am in distress constantly and don't know what to do.

I occasionally have a few hours when things feel tolerable, but other than that nothing seems to work. I've been on Restatis for about 4 weeks. No good results yet. Five specialists told me there was nothing wrong. Finally, went out of state to another hospital, where I was given a diagnosis with a treatment, although it's not working.

Has anyone ever recovered from blepharits, and, if so, what helped? Thanks.

Hello Chris222 & welcome to the chronic pain forum. Chris, we do ask all new members to make a separate intro post so that all members will see it & be able to say hello & welcome aboard.

By posting on this older thread not many people will see your post & respond. You will get a much better response if you can copy & paste what you have written above in a new thread.

I will lock this thread so no one else will post here. Thanks.
