So I went to see my foot doctor today so he could go through my MRI results. I had fascia release surgery in March last year after 4 years of unsuccessful treatment, and am still in a lot of pain.

Everything. Looks. Normal. on the MRI.

confused

The only thing the radiologist saw was that I have...planter fasciitis! My surgery didn't go as well as it appeared too I guess, and my tendon is as tight as ever. There is thickening of the fascia as well, which is in line with PF.

He couldn't offer me anything but to REDO the surgery again, and he couldn't even give me any sort of outcome statistics because he's never had to redo a PF surgery, and has never seen a case like mine.

He said I will probably always have this pain, and it's possible the surgery won't fix it or make it worse.

I am beside myself. Truly.

Oh ShortPotato, what a surprise I am sure. It really does not sound like letting the same dr do another surgery would be the thing to do. After one surgery by him I do not believe I could go another.

I believe if this were me, I would take my MRI & get another opinion. Whether you you switch drs or not, it never hurts to get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion these days.

Keep us posted.

This is all from my new podiatrist. I wouldn't let my old doctor, who did my first surgery, touch my foor ever again lol. I'm thinking of writing him a nasty ketter, just to make myself feel better.

I hear you on that. I would be upset too. See if he has a web site where you can leave a review. Well, even though this is a new dr you have nothing to lose by consulting with another dr. Have you thought about maybe trying to find an orthopedic that specializes in lower extremities? That may be something to think about.

Keep us posted.

Oh man--I'm sorry you went through all that, for seemingly naught. I agree about consulting with an orthopaedic surgeon. They might have a different take on the situation.

As one who has some of the symptoms of your condition without the diagnosis (the doc was scratching his head over that one), I 'feel your pain' and can see why you'd be angry. The pain is overwhelming for me sometimes. We're now trying Tramadol to see if that helps. I don't remember if you're getting any relief from medications, if not it's something to consider. You have the reasons not to trust a surgical answer at this point, but you also have options to get some relief from the chronic pain, know what I mean.
After you write that letter (LOL. I would, too!) use the left over energy to chase things that can get you a measure of relief from the pain and improve the quality of your life. You're not out of options, you've just hit a 'speed bump'! :-)

Thank you Melagain. I am taking narotic pain fkillers and also OTC ibuprofen daily, so I get some relief. It's never quite enough though, and I limp around a lot. No running, no hurrying anywhere.

I may see an Ortho, I may not. All my x-rays and the MRI point to Plantar fasciitis, so really there isn't much else to be said. The treatments are limited, and mostly just mask the pain. My podiatrist said my fascia is so tight and it shouldn't be after surgery. And it's true, it pulls so hard on my heel, I can feel it, even after 3 months of PT, massaging my foot and calf.

Hopefully I will come to some conclusion in my mind.
