First, I wanted to thank all of you for your kind thoughts and helpful suggestions.
I was taking morphine daily and Percoset for break-through pain. I decided to go off of them because they made me feel like I was in a "fog" sort of speak, as well as depressed. Unfortunately, I have suffered from depression much of my adult life as well and the opiates make me feel more depressed.
I even stopped driving for two years due to the pain. Also, I was concerned that I might get into an accident or pulled over for DUI. I am at the point, however, where I am desperate for some relief and may choose to go back to the opiates. My only reservation is one of the main side effects, which made me include Metamucil and psyllium, as part of my diet.
The pain clinic that I have going to has had an inordinate amount of turnover of Physician Assistants and that has made it difficult. I am now searching for another M.D. that I can see on a regular basis.
A couple of weeks ago, I went to a Chronic Pain Anonymous 12- step support group. I am still thinking about whether I want to return to it.
I recently went back to physical therapy and am also receiving hydrotherapy. The latter seems to help a great deal even though I have done it only one time. My next appointment is next week. The physical therapy office has submitted a request for TENS for me.
Because of the chronic pain in both shoulders, I have trouble sleeping, as I suspect many of you do. I take sleep medications, but they have not been effective for some time now.
I am leery of any surgery for all of the reasons mentioned by you folks. Also, I have had two hip replacements 10 years ago and they have been making weird noises for quite a while. In addition, I have had other surgeries due to other health issues and they have not worked out very well either.
Thanks very much again. I look forward to being a part of the group and hope that I can be of some help to others.
