I am a drummer and play some guitar as well and had my 2nd trigger finger surgery just over a week ago, stitches come out tomorrow.
It's really odd because I was just googling around about
recovery to see if I could find more exercises and I see all these posts about
side effects, and year long tenderness and PT required.... I dunno, maybe it's a personal thing or perhaps it's the quality of the surgeon, but I was typing as soon as the numbness from the surgery wore off (about
2 days which is also when I took the bandages off), and after 4 days I was doing finger bends, sets of 100. I will sometimes use my other hand to force the stretch at either end of the bend. I get a bit more aggressive each day. Things are still pretty stiff at each end of the bend/unbend, but I was able to play chords at about
80-90% today after loosening up my finger (acoustic guitar), only 9 days after surgery (it was my left hand)... I'm not ready for lead guitar though :). I expect 100% recovery within 4-6 weeks based on the last time I went through this. There was also virtually no pain at any point with this surgery or the last, no pain killers necessary. Not even Advil. All I can figure is there must be some real butchers out there if people are going through some of what I've read. Shop around for a surgeon. Mine is the best there is in northern MA/southern NH area. She also did my carpal tunnel surgery in both hands. I barely have scars. First pic is my recent surgery, second is the scar on my other hand that had the same finger done about
5 years ago. VIEW IMAGEVIEW IMAGE
