I have a question that I have not been able to find an answer to. Recently, I have begun resistance training again following quite a lengthy layoff. I had two neck surgeries, one laser, one level 3 ACDF. It has been three years post op but still not off pain meds. I fear the meds may be a permanent part of my life but I am strong enough now and have time to begin training again. I am 51 years old now and I am experiencing some strange symptoms during and following my workouts. I have been active in strength training for years so I know what I should be feeling following workouts but what I am experiencing now, during workouts and following workouts is not normal. I do not get sore at all from resistance training! I usually go to failure on some workouts and still barely get sore whatsoever. I say all this because I am 51 years old and do not know if these symptoms are a result of my neck surgeries and nerve damage and or surgeries or just because I am OLD. I am getting stronger and losing weight, which is the reason I begun training again, but my muscles feel almost immune to anything I throw at them. Can anyone provide some advise and or reasoning behind this? Should I be concerned or seek medical assistance? I feel fine for the most part but I would like to see some soreness again so I know I am getting some results from the training.
