I was up all night, last night because fireworks kept going off past 2 am, here. I have 4 kitties and one got terrified, he meowed so loudly husband slept on couch. I'm the one left with a migraine today because of it all. If you must do Fireworks then do them by a fire department and please stop at midnight because people do have to work the next day.
On a side note, I have prayer's out for a 15 yr old boy that got seriously hurt because of a sparkler bomb. He really needs prayers. It's so tragic and sad, so very tragic...The fireworks should be left to the professionals, period, it's gun powder! It's dangerous and even professionals have suffered injuries...Maybe a ban on all fireworks.
Another side note do not stop traffic on the highway to watch fireworks that is also very dangerous, shift workers want to get home.

I think everyone everywhere experienced pretty much the same thing. I know even though I took all the precautionary measure I could my animals were still in a frenzy even the next day. As for the injuries mist to children I have to blame the adults buying them because not one state allows 15 yr olds to legally buy any fireworks and if you're buying them for a minor you should be overseeing their use. There are city ordinance in place even if it's noise ordinances as to times of night for stopping but they are difficult to catch since by the time someone calls the police and they respond the culprits long since returned inside.

As for tying up traffic I would think that the cities displays should be held in area's with little traffic flow to begin with. Uncongested area's are best for many reasons, one rubberneckers, two the risk of fires and injuries in congested area's. When I was young they were always held at the county fairgrounds and those are almost always a good distance from the city. These days they will hold them right in city parks and such like here they are off the pier on the most congested area of the beach lined up with motels, hotels, resorts and vacation homes. Add to that it's turtle nesting season where there's no lights allowed by any businesses or people on the beach I have always been inclined to think that's absurd. The lighting confuses the turtles causing them to not be able to see the ocean and run towards traffic and other dangerous animals and birds waiting for the newly hatched turtles. Well what in the world do you suppose the fireworks display all the way down the beach for miles and miles from the city's display to all the resorts and hotels causes them to to do? I mean you can get fined big bucks for leaving a pool deck light on but the fourth of July comes and that is OK?

My rant over.

Houston had traffic bottlenecked on highway 45...they stopped in the emergency lane just to watch the fireworks.
I think people drive around watching the fireworks because they don't want to get stuck in traffic, but they are the ones holding up the traffic!

Also there was people killed doing fireworks. Tragic...

I will still say prayers for those boys, it is sad...they were sparklers...

Yeah we forget how many animals get hurt, even the pollution from un picked up fireworks. The debris harms animals, yet another reason for only the professionals to do the fireworks. We need stiffer penalties and for law enforcement to implement the penalties.
Fireworks are dangerous.
Continued prayers for those hurt by fireworks...
