It's been a long time since I've posted, I don't know how many people even remember me, But here goes, I just received a call from my brother who very bad case of Peripheral neuropathy in both lower legs to the point that he is disabled and has problems with his balance due to the pain. He just went to his pain doc and when he walked in the doctor asked him why was he taking 40mg's of Methadone and 300mg's of Nucynta together.( He was using the nucynta as his breakthru medication) This doctor is the one who ordered the Nucynta 4 months ago when his Medicaid came thru. So for the last 4 month's they have been given him both medicines (40mg Methadone + 300mg's Nucynta) So now she told him he has to get off of the Methadone, weaning him 10mg's every 2 weeks then she will write him the Extended release Nucynta to make up for the methadone. My brother asked the doctor what was wrong with taking the nucynta and methadone together and she said the methadone was an instant release drug, not a long acting drug. Then my brother asked her why can't I just go up on the methadone and the doctor told him 40mg's is the maximum that they prescribe because any higher dose would cause a heart attack.
So the doctor told him he could take just 40mg's of methadone with no other break thru. Or he could take 300mg's of Nucynta instant release + Extended-release Nucynta then she told him she was not going to risk losing her license by prescribing those two meds together nucynta and methadone even though she prescribed it 4 months ago. She told him it was the DEA's fault that this was happening. Please help..In on visit this doctor has changed everything my brother knew about
Thanks for help Beck
