cry hello everyone. I am.new to this site but have been reading posts on the forum. I have been on narcotic pain medicine for so many years I cannot remember. I have epilepsy, avascular necrosis in both hips, spondylitis, asthma, pulmonary hypertension, seizures that tear my body apart, 4 surgeries on one shoulder and three on the other and need both done again, I am in hell.
My Neurologist just put me on Butrans patch 10mcg. I have had it on for 4 days and feel nothing. I am also on 5mg percocet as needed. It seems the percocet doesn't help at all now. I am getting really depressed and cry all day. I also take neurontin, ativan is what my husband makes me take if I am having seizures one after the othe, klonopin .5 at bedtime, trazadone for sleep. And none of that covers my lung meds.
Has anyone else been switched to this with success and should I just stick it out? How long should I try it? Thank you very much for and much needed help.

Hello Bsgrandma & welcome to Healing Well. Sounds like you have more on your plate than you really need. I will be honest, I have yet to see one person come through here that ever got any relief from Butrans for chronic pain. I do not know why drs bother prescribing it either. You can use our search feature above & type in Butrans in the box & read old threads on people that tried it with no success. What were you taking before Butrans & why the switch?

Is there a reason you are not under the care of a pain mgt dr? Probably 98% of us are under the care of a pain mgt dr because treating pain is their specialty. I would let the neurologist know right away the Butrans is just not working for you.

Take care.

Thank you. I will let my Neurologist know today. Maybe he could send me to a pain management doctor

I am not sure where you live but with all of the changes that has been made in management of long term chronic pain patients, pain mgt drs are a must for us. Primary care & specialists do not want to be involved with handling us, too many rules & guidelines to follow.

Keep us posted.
