I'm sorry to hear that the PRP hasn't been helpful so far. I was hoping that you would have a good outcome (hopefully you still will given more time). I am thinking about having PRP and/or stem cells done for my back. PM wanted me to do it this summer, but I ended up not being a candidate at the time since I still had a problem that required surgery/could not be fixed by regenerative medicine.
I know the fail rate for back surgery is pretty high (hence why they have a whole diagnosis of "failed back surgery syndrome"), but I certainly wasn't given odds that low. I want to say I was told 80% or greater success rate, at least for the first surgery -- the other two were a bit more difficult to predict since they were more exploratory/salvage type procedures. My surgeries have yielded mixed results so far -- some things are definitely better, but other thing are unchanged or worse. But I'm only 3 mo out from the last procedure, so I'm not quite sure what to call the outcome yet... I can totally understand not wanting to have more surgery, though. I feel the same way. I'm really hoping I don't have to have more down the line, but we'll see. They probably would have fused me already if it weren't for my age...
So sorry to hear about your friend. I hope everything works out. Cancer is so scary.
