Hi I'm new to this. I will start out by saying I am a klutz. Sept. Fell dislocated left shoulder told I needed reverse shoulder replacement. OK but had to wait because of nerve damage to deltoid muscle, but I was told now need both shoulders replaced, because right shoulder had been dislocated twice and repaired Dr said best do new injury first since I have limited movement. Now my problem is I have had pain in my right elbow and wrist for almost 2 weeks. I have an appointment with shoulder Dr in 10 days to discuss replacements. I went to orthopedic specialty er unit because of the pain I have had in my right wrist and elbow. Xrays showed arthritis. Gave me prednisone regime and to take Aleve and Tylenol. Finished last prednisone today and still same pain. Can the pain I am experiencing be from my shoulder? They asked if I have injured my neck. Have had a few jarring falls in the past 8 months? Could all of this be a part of a neck injury and not my shoulder. I have a follow up appointment with the specialist in 10 days. Should I just wait?

Gave your post a title.

Short answer...yes. Injury to the shoulder could cause pain further down the arm. A fall like you describe, causing shoulder separation, could also have injured the neck but I would suggest taking one thing at a time. Discuss this with the specialist when you see them.

Thanks, first common sense answer I've heard. Not looking for pain meds only want to know what to do to alleviate the pain. Therapy, heat or cold?

Generally, ice is mostly helpful immediately after injury and the first 3 days following. Moist heat is usually recommended thereafter. Personally, there are times when I will still use ice if there is any swelling or inflammation to bring down, like when I am using the affected arm a lot, but most of the time, moist heat does the best for me. Hot soak in Epsom salts...moist towel with the heating pad...hot shower...whatever will give me the best relief.

One other question...why do you describe yourself as a 'klutz'?

I find heat to be the most helpful. I take a hot bath nightly to help with the joints before bed.

I'm a klutz, too. Gravity and I are constantly in a fight, and as of now, gravity has always won.

Hello Ochi & welcome to Healing Well. Sure sounds like you have a lot going on right now. Hopefully something get done to give you some relief. The pain you are speaking of with the elbow & wrist could be what is called referred pain.

Moist heat feels great but if you have a lot of inflammation going on, too much heat can aggravate that. So don't over do it with the heat.

Take care.

Goto ebay and buy a few far infrared ceramic heating lamps 150 watts at least and see how you feel after a few sessions. Please make sure that the lamp socket can handle the wattage of the bulb.I ordered 200 watt ceramic far infrared lamps and bought a chicken brooder lamp holder and hood rated for 200 watts for 40 bucks. The bulbs are 3.42 each from china.FAR infrared is a safe alternative just research it up and see if it will suit your needs.

Good luck
