Has anyone experienced an improvement in balance after ACDF? I am having surgery on C4-7 in two weeks and am hoping it will help my balance issues.

Hello GMama & welcome to Healing Well. Besides the balance issues what other symptoms are you having? I am also guessing that you had an MRI, do you know the results of it? What type of dr is doing your surgery & have you had a 2nd opinion? Sorry for so many questions, just trying to get a little more info.

Take care.

Yes I had an MRI? Symptoms include neck pain, weakness in hands and arms, balance problems and periphal neuropathy.
My physician is an orthopedic surgeon who specalizes in spinal disorders. I also have nerve compression in the lumbar region.

A very long time ago it seems we had a member post about having balance issues & the dr had recommended cervical spine surgery. I honestly cannot remember if the balance issue cleared up or not, like you she had other symptoms too. What does the dr say, does he think the balance issue is related to your neck? Since you also have back problems does he think it could be related to that too? I wish I could be more helpful.

Welcome GMAMA!

I had a similar surgery 4 years ago and do not remember balance being a specific problem. I want to invite you to read in the top of our list Chronic Pain 101 for lots of good information. The post started on 9/15/2014 was written for and by people who have had neck surgeries, so you might find some helpful information. My own story is titled just like it is in my signature.

Best wishes to you in your balance and overall healing from your surgery!

Gmama, I went to a website site called SpineUniverse.com, this site is user friendly & easy to navigate. They have a lot of great information there & you may want to take a look. Balance issues were mentioned with cervical & lumbar issues.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.
