Hi MAB & welcome to Healing Well. You are right, you are still basically fresh from surgery. Healing from this type of surgery takes many, many months, not weeks. While your incision looks healed on the outside, it take much longer for the inside to heal. It's a tough surgery to recover from & a lengthy one. I know the drs do not always tell a patient how long, but remember everyone is different. Time & patience is your new friend right now.
Walking is the best way to help you recover & gain strength. I am not talking getting into the car & going to a mall either. Increase your distance a little at a time to build yourself up. Sitting puts a lot of pressure on the back. You should try to sleep on your side, put a pillow between your knees. That will help take some of the pressure off.
Be kind to yourself & listen to your body. If you are overdoing things it will let you know. Take care.
