I think I have an answer for my symptoms finally. Trauma done to my neck muscles caused inflammation and misalignment which impigned a nerve in my neck. Maybe the vagus nerve? It would explain why my heart races uncontrollably when I experience a pain flare. Would also explain the random bouts of vomiting I experience as well.

Hi James, in all of my years here at HW I have not heard of the vagus nerve causing impingement in the cervical spine. We've had a lot of members with impingement, typical symptoms are arm pain, some have described the feeling of like electrical shocks shooting down their arm, numbness & tingling in some fingers, shoulder pain & neck pain. With that said they have findings on their MRI's, along with some of the above symptoms.

My limited knowledge of the vagus nerve is with uncontrollable seizures & injury to the vagus nerve during certain gi surgeries.

Thanks for the reply Susie. Maybe not the vagus nerve in particular, but I do think that inflammation to the muscle might compress a nerve (of some sort) and produce the symptoms that I'm experiencing. Who knows? maybe not...

I get tachycardia from stomach or esophagus or colon irritation. My usual irritant is sulfite, but many problems could do the same thing - including perforated diverticulitis. Once I had this too! Vagus nerve connects heart, gut, esophagus, lots of other organs. Often the tach is preceded by nausea (I can't vomit due to stomach surgery) or diarrhea. Look up cardio-esophageal reflex (not reflUx).
I also have a bunch of impinged nerves in the neck, but they don't cause tach on their own. They do cause all sorts of pain in the extremities.

Hi James M,
I have nerve impingement in both of my arms (radial tunnel syndrome). After months of nerve glides, physio etc they are sending me to have nerve conduction studies done. This will apparently show exactly where the nerves are impinging. Could this be worthwhile for you?
