I am 2 doses from completing a 21 dose methylprednisone pack for shoulder pain. It has not relieve the pain. Has anyone else had this problem? Normally the pack would have helped. Any suggestions on what the issue might be...I am tired of hurting. Last cortisone injection did not do much either for the problem. Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi Curious74432, what is the diagnosis for your shoulder problem? Have you seen a specialist or had an MRI of the shoulder? Sorry for the questions, just trying to get a better picture. Steroids are often prescribed to tamp down the inflammation that causes pain. They can be a hit or a miss, sorry to read that it didn't help. Sounds like you need to be investigated further.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the reply Susie. I have been diagnosed with bilateral shoulder impingment and tendonitis. I had an MRI of the right shoulder, but not the left. Xrays do not show significant arthritis. Ongoing problem for many years. Last cortisone injection in left shoulder did not really help and so far the methyldprednisone has not done anything for the issue. Thanks for your reply.

Curious, are you seeing a regular orthopedic, if so I suggest that you seek a 2nd opinion with an orthopedic that specializes in shoulders only. It never hurts to get another opinion.

Hi again Susie,

Yes he is an orthopedist who does a lot of shoulders. He is supposed to be the "go to" guy at that practice for shoulders. I had been told many years ago that I have thoracic outlet syndrome, left greater than right, which I understand can cause shoulder and neck pain. When I mentioned this to him he said oh that is really rare and just shook it off. I am like many and get frustrated being told one thing here, another there and getting no pain relief. Thanks for the advice. I may seek another shoulder guy.

I had to have acromioplasty on both shoulders, following injuries and diagnosis of impingement syndrome. They tried arthroscopic first, but eventually had to go back in on each and do the open decompressions.

I don't know if it would help pre-op but...my P.T. told me to take a hand towel sized towel, fold it in thirds lengthwise, then roll it up and tape it. Place it in the armpit to hold the shoulder in optimal resting position. Support the lower part of the arm with a pillow while sitting, or place it in a pocket if standing (in place of a sling).

Might be worth a try to see if it gives you any relief pre-op.

Thank you for the advice, I will give that a try. I hope your health problems are being resolved and you are becoming pain free. Have a good weekend.
