Hey,
I'm thinking of going to a chiro for my neck problems. I’ve been under medications for years and nothing changed much. Recently there is numbness in my neck. It's quite frustrating for me because I'm unable to do any kind of work, and anything I try causes me additional pain in my neck. So I was wondering whether a chiropractor could help. My friend had suffered from a severe neck spasm for years, and she went to a chiro. She is in much better shape now!

Chiropractors can be helpful. But you need to be very careful. If it is muscle pain from stress or doing things you are not aware of that causes strain on your neck. A chiropractor might be helpful. Have you seen a medical doctor for a diagnosis ?

Curioussam, I'm concerned that you say you've been on medications for years. What is the diagnosis? Have you taken any x-rays or MRIs? Have you seen an orthopedist? This is usually the specialist that would treat patients for neck pain. Numbness could be from a pinched nerve and physical therapy is frequently used for neck pain but you should be evaluated by these tests first. Taking medication for years for neck pain does not seem what a doctor would normally do. I hope you can refer yourself to an ortho.

Hi Curioussam:

Lanie is correct! You do need an Mri or Exray. Were you dxd. by a Dr. for a disease or was your neck pain caused from something that you may recall doing that could have caused the pain and numbness?

I was dxd. with severe R.A. by my Rheumy many years ago and have been on many meds for it. Then I was dxd. with Osteoarthritis on top. Same Rheumy. He recently retired. So did my F.D. R.A and Osteo are progressive.

I've had sore shoulders and neck for years. about a month ago, I started getting a more painful neck which radiates all the way to the top of my head and now my left temple too. When I lay down to sleep or rest, the pain gets worse and keeps me awake. Plus the numbness appears and a pins and needles feeling. It's not bad when I'm awake. So, it's not quite the same as yours.

I called my new F.D. and he thinks it is a pinched nerve. He told me to go to the Hospital to get an exray which I did. Unfortunately, he won't be back until first week of January. He said, if so, I will probably need Physical Therapy. If that doesn't work too good, then probably an Ortho.

I was having back spasm years ago. I made an apt with a Chiro. He wouldn't touch me because of the R.A. He didn't want to hurt me worse by causing me more damage. He was a good Chiro and helped my Hubby's severe back spasm when ever it crept up. He also suggested that he go to see a PT. I don't think he did.

I also recall years ago, that three clients died because their Chiros were doing whatever they do to their patients necks in correctly. I haven't heard of any since but that turned me off Chiros touching my neck. Perhaps they learned of better techniques for the neck. Anyways, best of luck with your neck pain and numbness.

Hey Lanie!! smile
