I have had my Lyme diagnosis for about a year and went thru abx(doxycycline) treatment for 14 days about 6 months ago to no avail. Attempting an herbal treatment called zenmen? And I seemed to be herxing slightly but then was positive for covid 5 days ago. Wondering if having lymes could affect the severity of covid infection. I am low income and cannot afford any of the Lyme treatments that seem to actually provide some relief. My symptoms seem to come and go and include muscle aches joint pain fatigue to the max, neck pain, sleep problems ( sleeping less or not staying asleep.)severe Digestive issues, neuropathy, mood problems, anxiety and paranoia which effects my relationship with my significant other. I am feeling hopeless In that I will never get relief from symptoms and being an addict in recovery, the temptation to use opioids for my chronic pain and stimulants to beat my fatigue are hard to deal with. I have been sober but sometimes feel like giving in because when I was using heroin and pain pills along with cocaine or amphetamines I did not even notice any of my symptoms. Currently take gabapentin for nerve pain and on Subutex for my opioid addiction which seems to help with pain. But I was hoping to get some advice on dealing with my wide array of crippling symptoms

Derek, you have a lot of different issues going on that will cause your symptoms to overlap. I suggest working with your dr that is rxing the Subutex. Congrats on getting sober.

The drugs you were taking. helped with most of the symptoms you are now feeling so strongly. It takes time for your body to adjust to not having the drugs in your system. In some cases, a doctor can prescribe other medications to help with symptoms. but that does not mean the symptoms go away. They are just not as severe. But each patient and doctor is different.

I agree with straydog, you need to discuss this with the doctor that is prescribing your Subutex. Are you also seeing a drug counselor or therapist? They can be a big help in suggesting non medication things that might help. It is also good to have a professional to talk to. Counseling can also be of help to your significant other. There are also free support groups for those in recovery and those that love them.

Congratulations on getting sober. Take it one day at a time, one hour at a time, etc.

Any words of wisdom concerning the dealing with Pharmacy's & pain meds? I am a 2+ decades pain patient who continually deals with unprofessionalism with getting my pain meds filled. My Doctor respects me, understands my health & pain issue. Does anyone else here feel disrespected & criminal like just for being a person in PAIN?

Ms Evelyn,
Do you go to a independent pharmacy? If not, you should switch to one.

I just got switched from gabapentin to Lyrica and then he added 5 mg of abilify and I already feel improvements with pain and mentally as well. Sleep 4 more hours a night than usual as well!

After 6 months on Lyrica (for Fibromyalgia pain), my ankles/calves started swelling, pain in center/left of chest, and shortness of breath. I had no idea what was going on, but my Rheumatologist asked me to start weaning off the Lyrica (3 week process) as well as put me on a 3 week dose pack of Prednisone. Within 3 days I started feeling better - now almost at the end of 2 weeks, my ankles are back to normal, I've lost 5 lbs, and my breathing is normal and chest pain disappeared. Having a little trouble with sleep, but that's to be expected.

So after all that I read the side effects for Lyrica as well as the possible effects of withdrawal from Lyrica. Scary and interesting stuff.... almost seems like they randomly put EVERYTHING on the list.

My point? Sometimes things stop working FOR you and start working AGAINST you for what seems like no reason. I thought the Lyrica was helping for months... until it didn't. We must ALWAYS stay alert and notice how we feel, both physically and emotionally, about all these meds. Best wishes.

Agreed I was on highest dose of gabapentin for 6 yrs and tried to stop twice but the withdrawals were unbearable (worse than Suboxone withdrawal imo). So stayed on it and they became ineffective so switched to the Lyrica. I've been on and off meds my whole life and they all stop working after a few years of being on them. I started microdosing homegrown psilocybin mushrooms for my mental health and addiction issues and over time it worked wonders and never ceased to. Way better than pharmaceuticals I've noticed. The magic of mushrooms my friends. no joke.
