I was just wondering if anyone has tried with any success any non-narcotic pain killers. I have my first appointment with a chronic pain specialist at the end of the month, and I've been trying to research some options. NSAID's do absolutely nothing for me, and the only other non-narcotic pain reliever that I've heard of is Ultram. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Currently I have a limited supply of Vicodin that I got from my GP. I feel like I really need to take two, 3 times per day to control the pain adequately, but I don't have enough to do so, so I've been taking as little as possible in order to conserve. Also, any advice about a first visit with a pain specialist would be great. Thanks! :-)

Jesse

Ride_04 I have had some success with toradol (an NSAID), but only in combination with opioid. I am confused, are you saying that Ultram is an NSAID. Ultram is actually an opioid, well kind of. It is a very strange one that some people dont even consider an actual opioid because of its strange structure and method of action and because it is very weak for an opioid. I have read about people going through withdrawals from it even though their docs didnt think they would, and even some people who were actually addicted to it. So be careful if you are taking it and think it is not narcotic, it is, it just a very weak one, though it can help people with their pain. There are lots of NSAIDS you can try to control your pain, infact Ibuprofen is one and you probably have that right in you cupboard, though it is much weaker than the prescription ones.

Good luck finding something that controls your pain. I hope that everyone has a pain free day.

Sorry, I see how that sounded confusing. I meant NSAID's do nothing for me. I've taken motrin 800 and all the over-the-counter pain relievers as well, and they don't help at all. Then, I meant to say that the only non-narcotic pain reliever I've heard of is Ultram. I was just wondering if anyone has tried it, or others like it.

But Ultram is a narcotic, it just is not the same as most other narcotics and it is much weaker.
