I was sent to take this test a week ago, after being told that insurance would not cover it and would be $250, that I am no longer to take Remicade.

I had only had 3 infusions and had reactions with the last one.  The dr called and set up an appointment for Wednesday. So was wondering what everyone thought the next step would be.........I cant take Humira due to having the pyoderma. Cant take other things due to having primary bilary chirrosis ( liver issues). Have taken Asacol and other pill forms of help and nothing has seemed to work.  With the Remicade it finally seemed to get this thing under some form of control.

Was wondering if anyone else has been here and done this and coupld offer advie and wisdom. This is such a great place to come and get suupport and answers.

Happy Holidays to all and hope we all get relief in 2008.

Hello OriginalAreU,

I am wondering why your Dr. took you of remicade after one reaction. My Dr. said reactions are common and some have one reaction and never have another one. Others never have a reaction. He said if I have one, they will increase the pre-meds and try again. They can even start pre-meds the day before if you get additional reactions. Did you get pre-meds (benadryl and solu medro steriod)?

To others looking at this post -- have your Drs given up on remicade after one reaction?

Sorry to hear it. I was in the exact position. I ended up having to have surgery because my doctors couldn't agree on how to treat me after that, my disease got out of control fast. At least your doctors ordered the test right away and got some answers for you. Your next step will depend on your disease progression and if they can come up with another medication. Not sure where you go from here, but try to get on something quick, you want to do whatever you can to keep your remission. You could even try Asacol, sometimes drugs that won't put you into remission, may help keep you in remission.

Fallcolors:

We did steroid shots and benadryl with the last 2 infusions.  The reaction was so bad with the last one, that they almost had me admitted to the hosp, thats why he ordered the test.

Thanks

Judyk:

He seemed to think since Asacol didnt do anything in the past that it was not worth trying it now. Thanks again for all the assistance.

Today he put me on Flagyl and is hoping to get me to Humira in a few months... I have a huge pyoderma that will take awhile to heal.......and there is some warning aboutnot to be used with an open wound..........He said he's never seen anyone build such a fast and high antibody to Remicade that I have now accomplished. And it showed no remicade in my system when they did the test.

SIGH

always something..........
