Out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone here knew how expensive it was to do the M2 Capsule test?

Never heard of it. What is it? Do you mean the capsule endoscopy? Please be a little more specific.

Hi Nanners,

Yes I was referring to the capsule endoscopy (sorry for the confusion!).  I was reading that it can see parts of the small bowel that the other endoscopy cannot.  Anyhow I was wondering if anyone knew what the cost of the procedure was compared to having a colonoscopy done.

$1000.00 in Canada with only a handful of places offering it.  Have no idea what a colonoscopy costs as we don't pay for that out of our pocket.

I've had a capsule endoscopy, but my insurance covered it, so I have NO CLUE how much it costs. Could you call your gastro and ask?

I had mine done in Indiana and it was $2869.50 for everything. That's the amount that was billed to my insurance and I'm sure they acutally paid less but those were the orginal charges. Hope that helps!

I'm going for this test on Monday.  Any one have any experiences to share?  It seems pretty simple, altho I'm not looking forward to doing the prep.

As long as you can swallow bigger things it's not bad. The pill has some lubrication on it and they have you drink something with it. The "equipment" that they strap to you to monitor the camera is more annoying than anything, but still not a big deal. I wore a really baggy shirt so that I could put the stuff underneath and people weren't staring at me all day. My capsule got stuck and I eventually had surgery to have it removed months later, but it didnt cause any additional pain - I was already pretty bad off so it wasn't any worse. GOOD LUCK!

I just did that test last week

about 2 grand

by the way they found out I have jejunal ulcers and a stricture near the new terminal ileum what ever that means :/

Dr was kindof vague when discussing options for this

Thanks everyone for your replies! 

I was afraid the test would be closer to $5,000 so $2,000 sounds relieving to me!  I am not sure as of yet, but I am thinking this might be the next step my GI may want to take.  She suggested it in the letter she sent to my Internist anyways.

I swallowed the camera this morning. No one mentioned how large this equipment is! I was picturing a heart monitor, but this bad boy is huge! It's kinda funny, I look like I have explosives attached to me :) I'm at work & thought it would discrete but no such luck.

Wow!  I think if my GI suggests I have the test done I will take the day off work! 

Was the prep the same as having a colonoscopy done?

I had no prep. I taught all day with my stuff on my belly and looked like the unibomber but it was a good conversation starter!
