Hello All-
Need some help here. I finally broke down and started back on the prednisone and none too soon I guess as i was in the hospital for an infusion. Should have gone in this weekend but couldnt afford to go to the er with my new ins- $250 to walk thru the door and $500 if they admitted me and honestly i probably would have gotten admitted if i had gone. Anywhoo i toughed it out and waited and finally got into the infusion center yesterday. The pred seems to be helping slow everything down and the pain is subsiding but of course the nasty side effects are beginning as well. He started me on 30 mg last week and i just dropped it to 25 this am. I cant sleep= takes forever for my brain to stop running in place and then when i finally do drift off, wake up at least 3x soaked and then like clockwork am up at 3am.. am so frigging tired.. this was hard before but with a small child needing me and a demanding job am not sure how exactly i am going to do this. i take it early- usually about 5 and have been taking 10 mg ambien and 5 of valium and still no sleep.. any suggestions? any meds that might work better? i knew i hated this drug but i forget how much until it is 2 am and i am prowling around my house.. i have no idea how i am going to make it thru work- work 4, 10 hr days so i can have one day home with my girl- normally they are just long right now they are frigging exhausting.. but i only get 10 sick days a year and already used 2 this week and you know how it goes with kids- i ran out of sick time last summer and ended up being docked almost 2 full weeks.. sorry for the *****ing,, am tired and grumpy and more than a little depressed i guess.. i know i could be so much worse and am really lucky,, just sometimes its harder to remember that,, thanks foir listening and as always appreciate any and ALL advice= you guys know better than anyone how to deal with all this crap= literally and figuratively speaking :)

i tried to always take my prednisone right when i went to bed. seemed to help with the sleep thing. by the time it really got into my system it was time to get up anyway. i know a lot of drs are specicfic about taking it in the morning. but whats the benifit? i asked mine and they all said . take it whenever you want. it doesn't really matter. so maybe give the office a call and ask. when i still could not sleep, i made applepies and gave them to the neighbors and took them to work. a still warm pie at work at 6am, priceless! i also would make raspberry jam. or clean the house. or the car. i actually started to mow the lawn one night, (got me a riding mower with a headlight) but the neighbor and my wife pitched a fit.

I agree withRandy,I also took my Prednisone at night, and it did make a differance.

I still got the headaches,and burning head/ear sensations,but I did sleep better,which definately helps.

I didn't make any yummy pie or jams, though yeah

Temazepam was the only thing that allowed me to sleep on my 40mg/4 month long stint on prednisone. It works fast and I did not have much groggyness when I woke up. It is habit forming though, so only take it when you need it and try not to take it for too long.

I've been having great success with Lunesta for Prednisone related insomnia. I take my Pred in the morning, though. It seems to me that the earlier, the better. By evening most of the nasty side effects have worn off.

Lunesta does give you a really yucky taste in your mouth, but it's worth it for a decent night's sleep. It also seems like you need to take it every night for a week before it really starts to help.

What about ativan? Its an anxiety reducing drug (which might cause ur mind to stop racing) but when I was given it in the hospital I didn't even know that bc they were giving it to me to help me sleep at night. It would usually knock me right out. Mayb u could ask ur doc about that
