I go to the Cleveland Clinic in two weeks and I sure a colonoscopy will follow so here' s the question. What option is their for prep in the US that is tolerable compared to the Golightly mineral oil disgusting nasty ..... should I go on?

I do the miralax prep with dulcolax tablets. I hate drinking the many glasses of the miralax, but I fine that it's gentler on my stomach. Also, it doesn't have a nasty taste to me, so that helps.

I just want something less. As in less to drink. There was just so much to drink with golightly. A Gallon is insane

I know. I felt like a balloon after those glasses. I wanted to just move into the bathroom that night.

I did the Pico-Salax prep for the first time in December, and was pleasantly surprised.  You only have to drink two glasses (with regular clear fluids in between) and it tastes like orange Tang.

I just did the Pico-Salax and it was the best ... 5 oz. with the laxative 2x in one day, very tolerable.  If unavailable in the US, Phospho-Soda or magnesium citrate are both less liquid than the Golightly.  I believe every GI has their favorite though.

I have insisted for the last few years on the pill preps. There are now a couple available. You have to take 28 pills and can drink them with any clear liquid of your choice. You still have to drink quite a bit, but its a drink you like, so not so bad. NO horrible taste. For me, it takes a bit longer to start working, but I'll trade that for the nasty taste of the others.

I highly reccommend the pill prep - Visacol was what I took last.  Lots of pills, but with the clear liquid of your choice.  I will never again drink that horrible tasting stuff.

I used the phospho-soda its what the gi made me do and it was horrible. I think it has to be the worse stuff. I was vomitting terribly after doing that so I had to take reglan to help with that. Its a mess.

Is the pill prep available in Canada? I have been instructed by my surgeon to drink two bottles of Citro-Mag mixed with cranberry juice the day before surgery. I am absolutely dreading the prep more than surgery!

There are two pill preps that I know about. Visicol and Osmo-Prep. I'm not sure if they are available in Canada, but its worth asking.

The Phospho-Soda is nasty, but it's entirely tolerable if you mix it with 12 oz. of ice cold white cranberry juice. The cold headache I got after chugging the stuff in one breath was worse than the taste.

If your GI insists you use phospho-soda, the best way ever to get it down it by pouring only 1/3 at a time into a full glass of clear cold pop and drinking it as fast as possible (as that's per instructions, drinking it quickly) doing this 3 times in total will get a 45ml bottle down without tasting that nasty salt taste and you won't notice the oily consistancy of it either....you can add ice to it as well, then you're suppose to follow with plenty of water afterwards to help flush things through. You don't have to plug your nose or suck on a lemon either when only drinking 1/3 at a time.
