Hey guys,, I wrrote in a few weeks ago aobut trying to manage symptoms to avoid a remicade treatment while nursing my daughter, but my symptoms have not gotten any better.  So my question is this:  Have any of you breast fed your children while on remicade infusions?  And how long do you think the drug is actually in my system if I wanted to "pump and dump"?  My GI doctor is very cautious about remicade treatments and the whole pregnancy nursing thing.  In fact he made us wait a year to get pregnant after my last infusion.  I thought I have heard of a few of the gals on this sight being pregnant while on remicade, so I was just hoping to find out if any one has been able to successfully continue nursing while on remicade! confused

I am currently pregnant and still taking my remicade treatments. Obviously each situation is different, but for us this was the only way having another baby was an option. While pregnant with my daughter I had an awful flare and was hospitalized 6 times during the 9 months. I was miserable and just couldn't take the chance of being that sick again. My GI ok'd us to get pregnant and also to nurse if I wanted to while on remicade. I hope that you find the answers you are looking for to make your decision a little easier. GOODLUCK!

I've breastfed both of my babies on remicade. The first one for 6 months with infusions every 6 weeks and the 2nd one for 9 months with infusions every 6 weeks. The molecule is so large that is not believed to pass through the milk. Have you read any information from Dr. Thomas Hale? Here is the link that specifically discusses b/f-ing and remicade:

I know it's a hard decision to make but based on the fact that the amount of remicade that MIGHT pass through the milk is negligible - I would feel VERY comfortable taking remicade and nursing. But that's easy for me to say because I've already done it twice. I personally don't even think you'd need to pump and dump.
