Hi all,

i hope this thread finds you all well or if not well smiling!!!! I had a colonoscopy on monday (10th) and my gastro discovered that i only have inflammation in my ilieum. my colon is perfect. However while i was under sedation, i did hear him say the word 'stricture' After the scope he came out and said the scarring isnt too bad. My question for this is sould i be doing something else to help it?? I would have asked my gastro at the time but was so doped up!!!!!

But my REAL question is about Entocort. I have been put on it 3 tablets a day. So far i've been on it 3 days and i wanted to hear about other experiences of it? How long were you guys on it? Any side effects to watch out for? Ta very much

Love to all,

I have been on Entocort for the last 8 months (3 pills per day), and it works OK.  It needs 2-3 weeks to kick in so be patient.  For me it's not the miracle drug like prednisone, but at least it reduces my symptoms to a satisfying level.

I haven't experienced any side-effects whatsoever which is good.  I have been on pred in the past and although it worked great, it had terrible side effects, that's why I chose to continue with Entocort.

Take care,

I have been on entocort for about 2 years now, started at 9mg daily but now am down to 6mg (cuz I'm also using Humira). For me Entocort has been a life saver! The side effects are minimal and it really controls my intestinal inflammation like no other med I've tried. Hopefully you will have the same results. Take care!

I just got put on 3 pills of entocort a day too! I've only been on it a week, but so far, so good. I still have D in the morning, but thats it. 3 times a day is better than 20 times a day. ha

I've been on 6mg for over a year. No side effects. Recently after starting to flare I was upped to 27mg. I've been on this dose for a month. First side effect happened within a couple of days--water retention in my fingers. So, I can't get my rings on. Over the last couple of weeks I've noticed acne, a general "blah" feeling, slight moonface, leg cramping in the mornings. Disease wise I feel great. So far, I'm loving Entocort--looking forward to tapering, and hoping there are no problems so I can use it again if needed. I had problems with prednisone and would not use it again.
Diagnosed with UC in August 2005.
Suffered for my whole life before being diagnosed.
Told to "Eat more fibre."
Currently on:

Salofalk 1500mg x 4/day
6mg x 1/day
Entocort increased to:
9mg x 3/day as of 2.14.08

woah Asia...are you sure its supposed to be 27mg of entocort per day?? thats triple the max recommended dose! did you know that?!? so you might wanna double check with the doctor, or pharmacist...someone...the dose for entocort ranges from anywhere between 3mg-9mg per day...I've been on entocort for a year and a half (pretty good drug) and all this time I've never heard of 27mg/day...anyways...my 2 cents.

yeah, that doseage does seem high. clinical trials showed that there was no benefit in upping the dose beyond 9 mg, which is why the manufacturer's instructions list that as the highest dose that should be taken.

entocort worked great for my daughter...in remission nearly two years. nearly one year, at only 3 mg daily. she has a stricture, too, but it is a problem only when she flares, which happened only when she tried to go off entocort.
