After 5 months the humira has finally kicked in and I am finally able to tolerate some multigrain breads, a few vegetables and some fruit. I have, however, gained 25 pounds since I've been on the stuff. Has anyone else experienced weight gain. I feel like I am always hungry and really craving carbs and sweets.

One theory is that when the inflammation in the intestine goes down, diarrhea lessens, the macerated food travels through the intestine at a more normal rate, and one can absorb more of the by products from the food. Nutrients, fat, carbs, etc might be able to be more utilized.

You perhaps feel hungry because your body can actually handle the food better. Were you underweight when you began Humira? Perhaps your body is trying to catch up. I did not lose or gain weight in the short time I was on Humira. I did lose over 45 pounds when on Remicade. Of course, I am one of those weird types that lost weight on prednisone. Go figure...

I have been on Humira for over 6 months and have gained about 8 pounds.  I was underweight when i started.

I have always craved sweets ever since the CD kicked in...sweet carbs even more.  But when the crohns is real active I could eat as much as I could tolerate and still lost weight...I am sure it has to do with the absorption factors.

My blood tests show a definite increase in my absorbtion of nurients.

I've been on Humira for 2 months and have gained 6 pounds despite more agressive workouts at the gym and a decrease in calorie intake. I keep telling myself its because I'm getting better and I'm getting the nutrients out of my food, but I'm not sure. Just a guess...

I've gained weight too. I'm not eating any different, and still have diarrhea. Go figure...

I've been on a doseage of Humira 40mg weekly for the past 14 months and I have gained 32 lbs!  I was 20 lb underweight when I began the injections but I am about 15 lbs over my normal weight now.  My CD is in remission but I feel very bloated even though I am taking Glycolax and Amitizia daily.

Diagnosed Crohn's 2002.  Medications that did not help me; Asocol,Clorazal,Prednizone,Robinul Forte, Glycolyrrolate,Levsin,Flagyl,Alinia,Vancocin,Remicade.
Currently on Humira and Methotrexate.

I have been on Humira for about 11 months now - within the first two months I had gained about 8-10 lbs, but I needed to gain weight.  Then the weight gained seemed to stabilize until the past 2 months I have probably gained another 8 lbs.  No one else seems to notice the weight gain and I still fit into all my clothes but they are a bit more snug. I craved sweets for a long time, once I started gaining weight I cut out sweets out of fear of excessive weight gain and I stopped craving them. I think if you give your body a little sugar it just wants more.  Cutting back on sugar also helped improve my Crohn's symptoms. So you are not alone - I walk a lot more for excercise, try to eat more veggies and less bread and hope I don't gain any more weight I am happy where I am at.  I think maybe the Humira effects how you metabolize`sugar - just a thought.   MB

Thanks for the thought about craving sweets.  I never really thought about that but I have been eating more sugar (cooking and baking are my hobby) and I have recently mastered the "No-Knead" bread baking technique and have been baking a loaf every other day.  I have never gained weight like this in the past, so I feel the Humira is definately the trigger point.
