I don't know about garlic supplements, but I had an appetizer at a greek restaurant where you dip pita bread into a garlic/mashed potato concoction and I was up all night with severe back and abdominal pain. No more heavy garlic for me.

I was reading the article in the CCFA issue a cpl months back and besides discussing supplememnts it talked about alternate therapies in conjunction with traditional treatment...ex yoga, acupuncture etc.

It read to me that Garlic is bad since garlic makes your immune system work more and with CD we take meds to supress the system so that it wont attack itself therefore it doesnt say avoid garlic but it may cause flares

I use so much garlic in everything I cook. Have never had a problem with it. Goes back to what we all know - this is a very personal disease.

I took garlic tablets for a week along with antibiotics to combat a sinus infection. I did not tolerate it well-my stomach was off it did not help the infection much either-the antibiotic or the garlic.

I'm also a great believer in the power of Garlic and grow about 3 different varieties. Even my animals get a Garlic drench, you should see them smacking their lips after its been administered, somedays they even form an orderly queue to receive it, the Garlic burp about 20 minutes later well.................. that's another story..

I cook with lots of garlic and it doesn't bother me. But again, what works for one Crohn's patient doesn't necessarily work for another.

I can't tolerate garlic in any shape or form. I too read the benefits of garlic, and have chronic sinusitis, as well as CD and other things, so thought , "hey its worth a try". Eating it made me terribly nauseous, and taking a garlic pill was even worst.
I guess its a personal thing, because I have many friends who advocate it and use it for all sorts of ailments. Won't know until you try.
