Hi I was just wondering if anyone has tried BOTH 6mp (mercaptopurine) and imuran...and has found one to be better than the other. In my current situation, the doctor started me on imuran, almost a month and a half ago, and I still have some nausea and fatigue. I was wondering if 6mp is better for side effects like this? or worse? and for those of you who suffered thru some nausea...how long did it last? did your doctor tell you its just part of having crohns? i dont think this is fair as I was feeling alot better just on entocort, as now im still on entocort and imuran...any advice would be appreciated! thanks all tongue

I can't help you, but wanted to give you a little bump.
48 y/o woman.  Diagnosed 4/06 after colonscopy, SBFT, CT-scan all showed crohns. 3 months later, after pred and remicade, all tests showed no crohns. December '06 had adhesions cut through a laparoscopy. Now taking Glycolax, Ultra Fiber Plus, Florastor, and DHEA. Have become gluten-free diet per naturopath's tests.

I have been on both. 6mp is a breakdown product of imuran. Perhaps if you already have the broke-down version it would help alleviate your ails? I did not have those side effects on either but the 6mp did a much better job of treating my symptoms.

I take my imuran in the am or at lunch, it does not bother me exept i get a really ithcy neck and cheeks, so i take a allergy pill with it as well( that started after i stoped the endocort) i am not in full remission but feeling so much better then this time last year( even water was causing pain) good luck with you imuran but remember it can take up to 3 months for it to start working

All the posts I have seen re these meds and nausea indicate that taking them at night before bed seems to work very well for most people, as long as there are no other side effects like reduced white count.
