Is it possible to not tolerate 6-MP because of side effects but be able to tolerate Imuran (AZA)?

It depends. I do know that several members here have had problems with Imuran and when they switched to 6MP they were able to tolerate it well. So in theory it should work in reverse. HOWEVER, Imuran is metabolized into mercaptopurine in the body. 6MP is mercaptopurine.

I couldn't take Imuran, it made my liver ill. I felt horrible! But that's just my individual result.

I've been taking Imuran since November and it helped with most of the symptoms except the killer arthritis. All of my blood work comes back ok so my liver is alright so far.
