My husband plays softball. There are about 15 guys on the team, and maybe 12 of them are married. We went to a party last night to kick off the season. There is a new guy on the team. I'm chatting with a couple of wives and saying that my hips are bothering me, so I feel I need to give a little "back" story to the new guy's wife. I tell her I have CD. Then she tells me her husband has UC. Then on the ride home, my husband tells me that another one of the guys is being tested for CD or UC, they don't know which. So in our little softball group of less than 30 people, I have CD, another wife has CD, one player has UC and one is suspected of having an IBD. That just seems like a high percentage to me. And its just a little freaky, since all of a sudden I'm the resident IBD expert. Everyone else is less than 3 years Dx, and I'm the old hand at almost 20 years in.

CD 19 years offically, 29 unofficially. 3 resections '93, '95 '97

Just goes to show how prevalent IBD is becomming...think about the tons of people who have gut issues but refuse to go to the doctor...the actual numbers of IBD (even IBS) are not accurate because of the amount who have issues that refuse to get a confirmed DX...it's just sad.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

I'd never heard of Crohn's til I was Dx in Jan 08 although I'd been sick for years. But when I asked my Aunt if anyone in our family had it she said yes my great Aunts granddaughter has it
about 2 weeks later my husbands family got together to meet a few cousins we'd not met before and while we were chatting found that my husbands cousin has CD also and since that I've found my bosses sister in-law has CD as well as one of my friends mum's.

So many missed diagnoses as well. I had IBS supposedly for 3 years or so, then proc***, then colitis, then UC then CD. Maybe nest time I will have something else...

I agree. Once I was diagnosed, I was told my grandmother had it. I have a close relative with UC. I think as a society we are more comfortable in talking about the gruesome details and are getting help. I think in the past, people just suffered. Sad HUH???? But I'm glad things are finally changing. Plus the fact that there are more options for treatment.
