Ok now I am freaking out this is an abscess...do you always need antibiotics w/ an absciess and if so what do they usually prescribe for this?  With my c.diff history I am very concerned about an antibiotic.  Can they just give you flagyl for this?  What about vancomycin?  These 2 drugs are used to treat c.diff that is why I ask.  I don't think I am going to sleep at all tonight.

Thanks

Christine

it is the one thing i still deal with on occasion. they flare for me in hot weather, especially if i get swamp ass. i try not to take antibiotics. i've used cipro, flagyl, and xifaxin (those are the names of ones that i remember). generally you only need a short course, like a week tops. it is a good idea to use them for a few days after you get the abscess lanced by your doc as you have an open wound in a municipal waste plant. your GI or colorectal surgeon should know what to give you. good idea to double up on your probiotic at this time if you take one.

Can this boil thing go away on its own without lancing, antibiotics, etc...I know it sounds crazy but I am hoping for hemmorids. LOL! I do not want it to be an abscess. I guess I will find out either way. After my cdiff experience I live on VSL #3 but am still so worried about having to take another antibiotic. I can handle xifaxan and flagyl but cipro gave me cdiff. I sure hope it is not cipro!
Thanks

Abscesses don't go away on their own. The body has crated a pocket and walled it off from your body -- otherwise the infected stuff would be floating around in your body! Drugs can't reach inside the abscess. After the Dr took care of my abscess, I was on flagyl and levaquin. Great drugs for this area!

I hope you get your problem solved ASAP. I know it is all so scary, but be brave!! I assure you, the longer you let it go, the worse it will be for you. Then you will really have to be brave!!! So go to the Dr now!
