Well I was just curious how long everyone has been on Remicade, and how well it has worked for them.
I have been on it for over 3 years and it has worked pretty good. Yes I did have to have surgery this year, but I was also on prednisone and 6-mp so not much was doing a lot anyways. I feel really comfortable with it, but I am just a wee bit afraid of the cancer risks since I am also on immunosupressants with it. Anyone else in the same situation.
Diagnosed: 2003, age 18 (had issues with it since I was 12)
Meds for crohns: Remicade every 6 weeks, 6-mp, Nexium (GERD)
Other medical issues: Hereditary Spherocytosis (hemolytic anemia) iron deficient anemia, polyarthralgia, ovarian cysts, Migraines, GERD
Surgeries: Spleen, Gallbladder, Tonsils, Adenoids, foot of terminal Ileum, Appendix, Ileocecal valve, bit of colon

I was on remicade for just over 3 years and it used to work great for me.  When I orginally started, it was every other month, but soon moved to every month at the max dose of 10.  Little by little, the remicade start not lasting quite as longer and I was forced to try to assist it with other medications such as 6-mp and methotrexate injections.  I did the best when I was on both 6-mp and remicade, but it caused my liver enzymes to go out of sight.  The methotrexate with the remicade made me very sick and now the remicade only works for about a week, so my doctor took me off of it.  I tried to switch over to humira about a year ago, but it made me so sick that I figured that a week or 2 of good remicade results was worth more to me than the humira results.  I would recommed remicade for anyone that has not responded to the lower classes of medications, but I was advise them to wait as long as they could before starting them.  I am all of medications to use and surgery is not an option just yet.  Good luck.

Hi, I have been on Remicade for almost 5 years and I have no-side effects from the drug. The remicade has kept me from having a 2nd surgery. Good luck with your Remicade.
