Does any one know if you can take a laxitive if you have crohn's disease? My crohn's is not active right now. Dr. said my nerves and muscles didn't regenerate after resection (three years ago), so there's always trouble GOING.

Somewhere on here I read it wasn't good. But I would call your on call doctor. In the past I have taken a stool softener which works gradually.

Please check with your doctor first......

I have a stricture and intermittent constipation.  My GI told me to try Miralax as needed, and it seems to help nicely.  It is very gentle, and I have had no problems.  Julie

I think a stool softner and drinking plenty of water daily would be the first direction I'd go before going straight for the laxatives...you certainly don't want to become laxative dependant.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

There are different kinds of laxatives. Crohnies have to avoid the type that are irritating (Ducolax and caffeine being notable examples).

Wikipedia has a page on laxatives! Is there any topic that does not have a Wikipedia page? Anyway, it's really good - read it, and your scatological education will be greatly enhanced:
