Hi all,
ok, not a great topic title, however this is something that I am wondering about.
A lot of people here talk about D (Diarrhea), or semi formed/ mush stool or actual formed stool.
I'm wondering what the norm is with Chrons?
I've been diagnosed since June 2005 with Crohns (left colon, large bowel) and can only remember 1 actual formed stool in the last 2 1/2 years, if not 3 years.
I've been on steroids, imuran, methotrextae and Remacide and no change with the stool.
Can anyone advise on this?

I cycle between diarrhea and mush/soft, and once had two consecutive firm formed stools, but haven't had those since.

When im flaring really bad on no medication i will be going diaherra water like 10-12 times a day. or majority is water with a few pieces.  There was a good chunk of time when my food would just come out whole not digesting at all.  When im on steriod i will have formed hard stools anywhere from 1-5 times a day.  i know this is gross but they will be nice, soft looking formed and when you flush doesnt turn into water.  When i go on low dosages of steriods my stools become very mushy like baby poop. or will try to form but when i flush the toliet turns into water.  I notice also when im on low dosage of medication my stools like they have been touched my sandpaper. It is no longer nice and formed and smooth. Rough looking like i scraped it with something.

there have been times were so often when i get sick i get green diaherra.  Ever happen to you? No one can figure that out. Havent had it in since sept so im not sure since i have been on medications.  There are sometimes when my first stool will be formed and hard and then everyone after that will get softer and softer.  REally surprised that if you have it in your colon you really need some pentasa or asacol.  I need the capsules that break down so asacol wasnt working good for me but pentasa you should look into.  i have the crohns in spots in my colon left, middle, and right side and rectum and end of small bowel ileum.

I am on humira every two weeks, pentasa 6 500mg pills, entocort 9mg,

Hi there, I find that most medications cause the big D to get worse. I have also had 2 resections and therefore only have had a firm stool, depending if I have a codeine pill or bananas. Mostly mush.  I am also on Humira, every two weeks, one cipro or Flaygl a day, and most of my symptoms are gone but still have about 5bm average a day. Depends on what I am eating.  Hope this helps a little. Have you had a resection?

um...let's see

Early on in my teen years I had chronic D - for ever it seemed ; even after dx I had D all the time until about 2 years ago confused it switched to chronic C - I would give anything sometimes for D instead !

Then ... just before I re-started Remicade in April/May of this year I started getting somewhat REGULAR ( or at least what I may think is regular ) days a week -  I was OKAY with that too ! yeah

But it switched back to C again ! mad

Then I had my second Cade and I had D for about 3 days afterwards ! ( huh ? is that right ? I thought it was supposed to stop that kind of stuff ? weird )

But, after the D passes I am back to C again !! Sometimes having to revert to the old Fleet friend ... or sitting in the potty for a really long time at work or I am hurting so bad !

But when it finally comes its formed for sure !

but wait ! sometimes it is formed ...then once I get off the pot I usually have to run back to it again ( oh that happens a lot ! ) and then its not formed ...its MUSH ... or even D ...

So, I can't possibly answer your question since I am totally confused myself !!

I never have a big, formed poop but i vary between the big D, whippy mush, pepples and small formed poops. Mush is the 'norm' for me though

I go back and forth. But, butt pee is my norm, with a few mushies. I really hate it when it's C because that is when my low back hurts and my stomach is turning flip/flops. I'd rather have mushies.

Formed, whats that??? Have not seen that in about 4 years. Soggy oatmeal is a good day. I never complain about soggy oat meal because one step back is water. Water is no fun because it burns.More like acid water. Geeeez what a wonderful subject..

The "norm" regarding stool consistancy with having crohn's is diarrhea, pretty much any info you read on crohn's disease always says D, never elaborates to the reality that it's not just D that means a serious flare but that's the textbooks analogy on it.

A person can even in one sitting can have a combination of D, solid and mush in any given order...there are many degrees of flares but I think the idea out there is that having D is the main symptom of have a crohns flare up, which is not accurate in my opinion and 17 yrs experiance either as I've always been in some degree of a flare, which I consider to be mostly severe and D was not always the reason, but frequency, bleeding and such were.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)
