It's time for a follow-up especially one with good news. Eight Remicade infusions in seven months, plus a pile of Prednisone and my scleritis of the eye is under control...for the moment. June 2nd I went to my regular opthamalogist for a pre cataract surgery examination. My vision was back to 20/400. I could have died. Fortunately my blindness was caused by the rapid thickening of the cataract, and apparently not from the scleritis. He said there were no guarantees on this one so they picked a magnification based upon my old records. He did the surgery on 9/5 and I could see things 5 minutes after. They have checked the eye since and it is 20/40 and improving!

I'm doing okay but I cringed when he said "When are we going to take off the other cataract?" I said, "Never. If that eye is 20/14, why mess with it?" Then he reminded me of how fast the other cataract rendered me blind from all the Prednisone.
We found ourselves a second place in our home, Lincoln, Nebraska and plan to spend our hurricane and football season there. Our grandson won a football scholarship at Nebraska and we are dying to WATCH him play. Notice the "watch" in all caps. Then in November, we'll come back to Florida and God willing, do the other eye.
It's been a long hard grind.

Retired male in late 60's. Perforated Colon in 92. Diagnosed as Ulcerative Colitis in 93. Uncontrolled flareup in 97 dictated J-pouch surgery. 04 Capsule endoscopy diagnosed as Crohns not UC. Emergency surgery in 05 to remove lodged camera capsule. Biopsies positively diagnosed Crohns at that time. 12/06 Unsucessfully tried Naltrexone(LDN). 2/07 developed scleritis of the eye, tearing and detaching the retina. Treated with high doses of Prednisone. 6/07 Thought eye was healing and started taking Entocort counting on the residual (non-systemic portion) as treating the eye. Wrong. In October eye was not stabilized. 11/07 Started Remicade to try and reduce the ocular inflamation of the Scleritis since I had been requiring more and more Prednisone to keep the eye quiet. 12/07, retina tares and detaches again. Started Remicade every 4 weeks plus 20mg of Prednisone per day. Six months and seven infusions later, good eye is back to 20/14. Bad eye is 20/70. Set for cataract surgery in June 08 on bad eye. Should return to a correcable visionary level. Life looks good (literally) today.
