My husband has recently had two surgeries for draining fistulas, unfortunately the first was unsuccessful so he had to go into hospital 10 days ago to try again. He's in a lot of pain, he has three wounds, one of which is being packed daily by his doctor. I am very concerned about him. Unfortunately we have a holiday booked to Florida in August and although I have suggested cancelling the holiday he will not hear of it. I am really worried that it is going to be too much for him. Has anybody got any suggestions as to what we can do. His next appointment is in a few weeks with a Gastroentrologist (his first one) he is also having a second MRI very soon. He was first diagnosed late last year.
What sort of questions should he be asking his doctor? He always goes alone to his appointments ( his choice not mine say's he deals with them better alone but I never know what as been said) I worry that he is trying to protect us from the realility of his condition.
Are there any pain killers that are better than others?
Does anybody else suffer with pain at the base of their spine?
Thank you for your help

A lot of us find that even though we aren't doing our best we end up feeling well on vacation. Maybe it is just the complete lack of stress. If your holiday involves flying or driving long distances that part could be complicated. But, if you are going on a relaxing beach vacation not to far from your hotel bathroom I could understand him wanting to still do it. Sometimes we have to fight through this disease to live somewhat normal lives. I don't know anything about surgical wounds though so hopefully someone else can come along w/ advice there.
