I am new to this...anyways I have currently taking remicade every 8 wks for almost 3 years.  I am getting married in November and we want to start a family shortly after.  I have so many mixed feelings about taking remicade while pregnant, but my specialist reassures me everytime I see him that I should continue my infusions throughout my pregnancy.  Can someone who has experienced this get back to me, any feedback would be greatly appreciated..

Welcome Jax.

There are several women here who have had healthy remicade babies. One is Steph17 and I think there are others pregnant now. This is a common topic, so you can find information by searching through the older posts.

Congrats on your wedding and good luck thereafter. I am currently 32 wks preg and loving it, hope you have the same luck.

Currently in remission!

I am currently 28 weeks pregnant and on remicade. I know it's a hard decision to take such a strong med while pregnant, but for me there were no other options. I had "stomach"/abdominal pain for years and it was always misdiagnosed as "female" problems. When I got pregnant with my daughter in 05, I had serious pain at 11 weeks and it never got better while I was pregnant. Because I was pregnant they were limited on the testing they could do to find out what was wrong so I spent almost 30 days total (6 visits) in the hospital and was EXTREMELY sick. I lost 27lbs and everyone was worried about whether or not my daughter was going to be ok when she was born. Several months after she was born I was finally dx'd with crohn's and started a treatment plan. I already had a pretty serious stricture from scar tissue build up that couldn't be reversed. The remicade stopped any further disease, but I did have a resection surgery in July 07. Even at that point I thought I would never be able to have more kids. After about 6 months of "normal" living I decided to talk to my docs about having another baby, but I knew that remicade was the only way I could do it. I did lots of reading and talking to people, but ultimately the decision is yours and your significant others. I would never have taken the risk of a flare during pregnancy so if it wasn't for remicade I wouldn't be having another baby girl in Sept.
Think it through, talk to your doctors and your significant other and go with your heart. GOODLUCK!!!

Thanks so much for the responses to my question regarding remicade use and pregnancy.  For so long I have questioned whether to say on my meds and finally I am gettng some reassurance that things will be ok. It is nice to talk to others who have been on remicade while pregnant.  Instead of hearing from specialists who have never experienced it before.

We are extremely excited to have a family, but at the same time nervous.  I will just do what is best for myself and for the baby.

Thanks Again

I have 2 healthy remicade babies. I'm pregnant with baby #3 and had a remicade infusion, but just switched to Humira. I'd be happy to share my experiences if you want. Feel free to email me. Just click on my user name to get my email.

i have RA and my husband and I are ready to start a family. Remicade has been great for me and i don't want to stop and risk being in pain again. i would really like to learn more from women who have used remicade in their pregnancies. anyone taking plaquenil also? i am also concerned about breastfeeding. anyone have experience with that?
