Serious question on BLOOD TEST RESULTS ?? Must be a mistake right?

Met with a new GI last week - picked up my lab results today ( only partially ready )

This can't be right can it?
The sed rate is normal ...but here is what is high

RBC 5.57
IRON 237 !! huh/
LIPASE 742 !! I looked this up - connected to pancreatic disease ?? I am so confused ??
Hepatic Panel PROTEIN TOTAL 8.6

Does any one know what this could be pointing to ... ? I am so concerned

You see I just resigned my stressful job today - I found one that I will be working from home - I start in 2 weeks ....

I CAN'T get sick ...i just can't
one company will dump me as soon as they can from the insurance and the other i have to wait a month ...

Oh God please help ! I really mean that

any insight in to these numbers

I know I have to wait to talk to the docs ...or hopefully get a call from someone saying "oops...mistake"

ok breath deep labs use different measures so don't think this is horrible yet, it could be just different measures

You know MM more than anything - I am thinking about something serious happening just when I resigned from my job ! That scares the heck out of me ....not to mention something as serious as this...now I have to wait till tomorrow to call the doc ... thanks for the "breath" reminder ... I am not feeling great right now.. just doing research - the Iron being high is related to the pancreatic levels being out of range completely ! I am so scared right now ..and yet I know I shouldnt be ...so I am not going to be ...I am not going to be ...I am going to try to relax

Might it be better to let the doc interpret the results?

More deep breaths. You say that you worry about something serious happening when you've just resigned from your job, but please remember that nothing serious has happened yet. I know it's easy to panic at the prospect of being sick (hey, I do the same) but it's really not going to get you anywhere. It might be better to try to focus on how you are right now and what you're able to do today.

Hi Here in Canada the Dr. reads the results to the patient which is good because they are there to answer questions. When do you see your DR. again? Hang in there .lol gail

Yeah, let your doctor read the results. I've made that mistake before. Had to wait over the weekend to see him, and had diagnosed myself with all kinds of problems based on it. LOL Ended up not meaning anything bad for me. So now I just leave the test results to him! LOL Take it easy, and hope you can talk with him soon.

Thanks everyone - your  words really did calm me down last night ...realizing there must be an explanation for it

plus he scheduled me for a cat scan on thursday - and that was before seeing the results ..i dont even think the results will get to him before thursday !

should I fax him my copies of the results so far ? should i just wait

okay remaining calm is easier said than done...as I shared w/a coworker I felt the uneasieness rise again ... I just resigned my job !! August 1st is my last day - trust me I can't take it back !

they have put me under an immense amount of stress - I cant do it anymore

Do they have more than 50 people and were you there more than 1 year? If so you can pay the employer's portion of your health insurance and stay on it for that extra month. It will be expensive but worth the peace of mind.

Fitzy - yes...I can do the Cobra for about $400 I think ...worth the borrowing for sure ...

I will have to do that without even thinking twice - Thurs I go for a cat scan so I guess if this is right then they will see someting there ..
meanwhile the fistuals are draining so much ...worse every day ..I just dont know what to do

or how to handle this ...maybe I should go ahead and give the Humira a try
since the Remicade is not working ...just that its $75 for the 1st two shots...then what ? since I wont have this job - oh wait ..I guess it will be covered under the cobra ?

Yes it would be covered under Cobra. You are paying for the same insurance you had before Cobra. Good luck!

Of course I don't know the site now, but, I used to have one that explain "Lab results".  I know someone on this site gave it to me.  Maybe, just type in medical lab results.  Good Luck.

Hi Misterie:

I think lipase is a liver enzyme. Elevation of liver enzymes can be an indication of drug toxicity, especially for people like us who are on a cocktail of drugs. The liver is where the body filters chemicals and when the body gets overloaded it puts stress on the liver. I see you are on remicade as well as several other medications. That may be the cause of the elevated levels. My liver ensymes were elevated since increasing my dose of imuran in February. My GI counselled me to come off pentasa and reduce the amount of ranitidine (zantac) to see whether it made a difference in the levels. My most recent blood work showed that the enzymes were back close to normal ranges. Even if they hadn't, he wasn't prepared to reduce the dose of imuran unless the enzyme levels continued to climb because I am feeling better on the increased dose. With a chronic illness it is always a balancing act.

The bottom line here is that you need a physician to put these results into proper context and until then, don't borrow trouble.

If they are drug induced, they are almost certainly reversible with no damage to the liver.
