Because I have had Crohn's disease for 30+ years and thus at a higher risk for colorectal cancer (even tho my Crohn's is confined to my small intestine) my gastro insists on an annual colonoscopy. Her rule of thumb is annual colonoscopies after 10 years of Crohn's disease. I'm not a particularly obedient patient. I usually manage to drag them out to every 18 months to 2 years. Not because I mind the colonoscopy but because I DETEST the prep!! One time she did find a polyp and I behaved myself and had a colonoscopy 12 months later. No sign of a polyp or polyps found and I'm back to dragging it out to every 18 months to 2 years again.

Some people are like Slinkies... Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

My GI recommended colonoscopy once a year because of my long standing disease.  My insurance covers the colonoscopy in full.  But I did a lot of research and found that the probability of colon cancer for Crohn's patients is not that much greater than the general population.  So I am dragging it to once every 5-6 years.  When I get over 50, I will do it more often.

I do not want to do 40-50 colonoscipies in my life time.

Diagnosed with CD in 1994;

Have being treated with Chinese herbal medicines for over 10 years.

I used to have them more than once a year when my symptoms were bad. My G.I. does not think that people with Crohn's need them yearly unless there are having unrelenting symptoms. I haven't had one in about 4 years now and I am not bringing it up to him. After the 5 year mark I may ask if I need one.

It's been 2 years since I had one. I'd like to go another 2 years at least. LOL I hate them. But if I want a new GI, my guess is they'll want a colonoscopy. We'll see.
Diagnosed with Crohn's Disease 2/06 after sever GI bleed. Has been suffering since 1998. History of rectal fistula and gallbladder removal. Currently taking Prednisone: tapering down from 10 mg again, Asacol, Questran, Toprol XL (for high blood pressure).

Usually about every 3-5 years.  It just depends though I guess if I'm having problems.  I just had one last year and it had been a few years.  And then my latest one was just last month (june 08) because I went into a flare in May and he wanted to get in and take a look.  If I'm in remission then my GI doesn't care to do one really.

Living with Crohn's Disease since Jan./2000 but had a few years prior
I'm a true Crohnie with IBS and Arthrities too
Meds I have tried:  Too many to list- LOL
Meds currently on:  Prednisone 20mg tapering
                           Methotrexate injections once a week 25mg
                           Folic Acid 5mg once a week
No Surgeries

Every year I am supposed to have a colonoscopy. My doc just changed it from every two years to every year. I have a ton of polyps in my colon too. My next one is in August. I can't wait to drink the prep.
