Hey everyone! I have been lurking on the website for a week or so and decided to join. I was newly diagnosed with Crohn's disease July 10th at the ER by my gastro doc. I was admitted for 4 days where they did a CT scan and colonoscopy. They gave me a day of IV steroids and sent me home with 50mg of prednisone (i taper off 5 mg weekly) and 800mg Asacol 3x a day maintenence. I was having typical CD symptoms (diarrhea 4-15 times a day, stomach cramping, felt like food poisoning everytime i ate, mild blood in stool, lost about 15 pounds) for about 5 weeks before that. I'm down to 30 mg of prednisone now, my BMs are 1-3 a day.. and i just have bloating and mild twitches in my intestinal area. I'm following a low fat, low residue diet and it seems to keep the symptoms in check. I consider myself pretty lucky, since so many people seem to have a horrible time with it. This is my first real flare that i'm aware of though, so i know things can change at any time. Anyhoo, i just wanted to say hey and nice to meet everyone here! This has been a very scary experience for me, and i have had so many questions. It's nice to have an area to bounce off of others who share the same experiences.

49 y/o woman.  Diagnosed 4/06 after colonscopy, SBFT, CT-scan all showed crohns. 3 months later, after pred and remicade, all tests showed no crohns. December '06 had adhesions cut through a laparoscopy. Now taking Glycolax, Ultra Fiber Plus, Florastor, and DHEA. Have become gluten-free diet per naturopath's tests.

Thanks for the welcome! I was relieved to be diagnosed because i had seen a few general docs before the gastro that wouldn't run any conclusive tests and kept telling me it was just a stomach flu, go home, and deal with it. I had a feeling it wasn't the stomach flu after the 3rd week of it so I'm just glad it wasn't cancer or anything terminal.

Welcome to Healingwell Aerosmithkat! You will alot of great and supporting folks on this board. Your first flare sounds alot like my first one. I was put on Prednisone and Azulfidine and was feeling pretty much back to normal in about 3 months. One tip I can give is when you get out of this flare, make sure you stay on some kind of maintainence med and continue to watch your diet closely. Look forward to hearing more from you.

I just wanted to say welcome! I'm sure you'll find everyone here as helpful as I have. This disease and all the meds can be a real rollercoaster ride, and it's nice to be able to share the ups and downs with others.

Keep us updated on how you're doing,
