Hi, Stephx I just wanted to jump in here and wish you well for your surgery. You will get through this just great, just take it one day at a time or one hour at time whatever it takes!
I strongly agree with everyone else that it would be a very good decision for you to go and stay at your aunts house after surgery, even before if you can and do the prep at her house too. Just so you have a calm, less stressful enviroment as possible. My heart goes out to you so much, you are definitely a giver and take on alot just like most of us crohnies!!!!
When your stepmom and dad are visiting you in the hospital, make sure the doctor or the nurses sit down with them and really explain to them in graphic details what you have gone thru and what will be your restrictions and for how long. I thought maybe that would be better if someone else explains things for you and then when you do go back to your house after your recovery stay with your aunt, they will be hopefully more understanding.
I had surgery in Feb.08 and I am so glad I did. You will too, and all of this will be behind you shortly.
After surgery,( when I was home) I ate alot of soups, mashed potatoes, broths, cooked chicken, pasta, crackers and cheese, yogurt.
The dietician told me to add a bit more salt onto my food to help with the diarrhea, so check with them first if you too can do this, I think it really helped. Oh the salt, also reminded me just now of V8 juice, I drank alot of that also (cold) yum.
Thinking of you,
